Ok, yes everyone knows nerfs keep happening, and this new one is starting to get many people etchy ( me included )

This is not a topic to discuss nerf's but to see how many people started pvping because something was nerfed or stopped pvping because of the nerfs

I'll start, I know 50 people who left over the years due to something getting nerfed.

I didnt vote but mine is: People tend to PvP more when things are balanced.
Balance is needed in all games so things need toned down sometimes. What made me give up on EA UO was Tram, AOS, and the fact that EA will not give us a PREAOS, tramless server.

I didn't vote. You forgot to include an option for those that just don't care to pvp.

That aside, I do know many people that have come and gone and come again due to changes. I think it's going to vary based on what each player thinks is unbalanced. Just my opinion.

  5. I didn't vote either, because I think that the nerfs will cause some people (tamers) to stop PvP'ing with those characters, and start PvP'ing with whatever the next "uber" or "overpowered" template is.

Or they just start speedhacking with all the other whiners.

All the "get rid of tram" talk is nonsense. The whole reason tram came to be is because people were leaving UO en masse because they couldnt play without being ganked. I remember when you couldnt leave town without getting a four on one gank... you couldnt train a skill, collect resources, nothing. Not unless you had a group with you and were willing to risk losing whatever you gathered every time you went out.

If that is the play style you enjoy, then please take part in it and enjoy it... but dont force everyone else to do so. It wont happen anyway. PvM people are out there, its just that PvP people are more vocal on the forums, and PvM people probably speak up less since they are usually flamed pretty harshly.

When I left UO I left because of what PvP had turned into. It wasnt player versus player in the least, it was a game of who can run the latest hacks, who can game the system best, who has the most antisocial guild. PvP had been pretty fully taken over by the d00d community and I didnt see the sense in it anymore.

Now Im back, and as I read posts on here I can see that little has changed. Everyone complains that things arent balanced, this should be nerfed, this person HAS TO BE cheating... and on and on.

I got a house in Tram, Im just doing my own thing, enjoying and staying out of the things that caused me aggravation in the past.

If you enjoy PvP, have fun in Fel... I dont care to PvP anymore, but I dont want to see Fel gone. Isnt SP really supposed to be there for the PvP enthusiast? Maybe purists would be better served there?

Aside from completely symmetrical games like Pong, has there ever been a PvP videogame that didn't need some nerfs and tweaks?

You need a third option. Something along the lines of:

"Neither, I will keep playing. I'm not a quitter or a whiner because I know how to adapt. "

There's a reason this game came with a little quote saying.

"Game may change during online play."

Plus, keep in mind that these are only in the testing stage! When released it could be entirely different then what you see.

That doesn't seem to have stopped people from demanding nerfs and fretting about nerfs in SC2.

Siege is hardly an option for most PvPer's. most like the production skill gain system and cant stand ROT,they Like the Idea they can make more than one character on production shards and some even like insurance. Siege pre AOS was the best server up until then. If they made a production shard that was felucia based like siege it would almost be a dream come true. And same could be said for a tram only server.

Im not against the PvM playstyle what im against and still B#$%^ing about since 2000 is we should not have stayed on the same server UOR should have divided the "new"(tram) from the old(Felucia) and recieved the same content upgrades. Same as they should have kept around a few pre aos tram/fel kind of servers when they released AOS.

In fact the release of AOS alone (to this day even) has cost EA alot of money in wasted Bugfixes, balance passes due to the aos systems where if The combat/item systems were like it was before there would have been more time and funds for better clients, expansions, content,Support. The game would be damn near balanced and bug free.

Oh please. Only idiots got pked in the months before tram. Reds only hit the hotspots and were much fewer due to statloss. I went out daily and never got pked. IF I ran into a red, which wasn't that frequent, you could just recall out, which required like 40 magery.

People went to the brit xroads and were like shocked when they got nuked. Those are the idiots who ruined the game.

Indeed. I was on my newbie archer running around the roads by the Skara Brae docks and rarely ever ran into anyone. Of course, by the time I reach the x-roads I saw people, then ran :p

I did so much outside the guard zone areas without ever getting killed by pks before tram came in.

Yeah every shard had its hotspots...and for the most part, all you had to do was stay away from half a dozen places, and you were seldom bothered, even when we had a large population...

Everything was handed to people (even now) with little or no risk!!!

Now you have a market flooded with items simply because no one loses anything...craftsmen are useless becuase no one loses anything...the arties we get are worthless because...guess what...no one loses anything!!!

You have everyone rolling around in the most uber gear because no one loses anything!!!

what nerf is being discussed anyway? the healing potion thing? i saw good riddence if people quit over that, i am not fond of people that rely on constant chugging to survive so im glad they are leaving if they do, learn to survive without potions to earn respect

  25. And the ones that people get are duped promptly.

Between the item-based model, insurance, and cheating, the game is almost ruined.

  26. I didn't vote... this poll is as biased as it gets and I won't enable the OP.

As for changes to PvP, if it leads to more fair balanced PvP, how can it be a bad thing? I will admit there can be good changes and bad changes, but you have to have some sort of gumption to PvP no? Why would anyone quit?

THANK YOU! Someone who gets it! Someone who actually played and knows how things worked!

You have restored my faith in posters on here. Not everyone on here is some trammie newbie who spouts off carebear propaganda and lies about the horrible uber gank squads that oppressed the population.

People got their skills up to 7x GM, harvested large amounts of resources, placed houses, ran very successful vendor shops, all with the dreaded PK looming about. Why? Because those people knew how to survive. They werent the brain dead noobs who wandered into a PK hotspot, got killed, then came on here and she-dogged until the devs nerfed the game into the sorry state its in now.

Ill say it again, you people who whined and got the game ruined knew you were logging into a game that had open PvP. You knew you were going to get killed by someone else eventually. If you couldnt handle that, then why in the bloody hell did you even bother logging on? You should have never even logged on and let those of us who enjoyed the game do so.

    T2A server FTW!

Edit: I voted that people will stop PvPing all together. More nerfs means more gimping of skills, which means more disgusted players. People are just going to give up on PvP completely, because, why even bother anymore? Its dead. PvP in UO today is like trying to pump fresh water from a cess pool. No matter how hard you try, all you'll keep getting is crap.

Almost ruined? No, its completely ruined. Crafters are useless, PvP its wrecked beyond all repair (save for a massive reversion of the game), all of the new expansions have made cheating run rampant, and pretty much all of the skills are gimped to the point where they are barely even functional, except for the current flavor of the month templates. With all of that in mind, I say this game is completely ruined, wrecked, trashed, stomped on, kicked, lit on fire, and left in the gutter to die.

    Basicly all nerf's in general.

Few examples that could go in here are,

needing tactics for weapon skills - destroyed templates played for years
AI damage capped at 35 - made harder hitting AI weapons pointless
needing 99 necro to stay in necro form - ruined some sweet temps pvp / pvm

Things like 4/6 casting and 100 damage crits that they nerfed, I never complained when they where around and didn't think they where that bad but I will allow them to pass without me complaining.

And now with new nefs coming in, like pots, and people being resistant to your special moves, dexxer templates in general here are being nerfed but the over powered greater dragon isnt...

One template still remains on top, and is not going to be even more over powered than any other template is a necro mage. prolly cap FS damage to 35 next.

Oh and I guess the numerous times I recalled to my home and got ganked because people wanted me to sell them my house so they could live next to a friend is my imagination.

Oh and I guess when I had vendors in shops and I was constantly getting PK'd bringing in merchandise to stock with was my imagination.

Oh and I guess when PK's camps vendor houses and killed people after they bought items was my imagination.

Oh and I guess when a few of us would venture into a dungeon and a pk group would run thru killing everyone was my imagination.

I guess the idiots were the ones owning homes, vendors, shops, or trying to go to a dungeon according to you.

I can tell you for a fact I know hundreds who quit becuase of PK's. That is on just the server I played. See my post above in response to Uvtha, you seem to forget all the others out there who had the problems. I think maybe you were one of the people doing the PK'ing--they never seemed to have an issue with the killing.

I remember an entire guild that left LS because a PK guild camped their keep because they wanted a keep. The guild that owned it were mostly crafters. After days and weeks of friends trying to help protect the guild they gave up and left UO. They got tired of every hour of the day having pk's invis'd outside and kill anyone that recalled in. I know several shops that closed up because of thievs and pk's that would stalk thier shop and steal them as they stocked or from customers after they bought. So please try speaking your nonsense somewhere else.

  36. I did not vote, but quit PvPing a long time ago, my one lone warrior [Swords] sits on another shard in some forgotten Inn, the only times I see him is when I log in to trade gifts with people on that shard. Today I mainly PvM and rarely do I fight players in game except maybe at a guild event on Sonoma.

If I am in Felucca doing a CS with mates and we are raided, I will run/hide/stealth off as fast as my legs will carry with my tail between my legs as I know I have no chance against a player killer.

The birth of power scrolls nerfed the warriors!

there are no PK's in UO. when you go into a moongate and select felucca that is what is called a PvP switch.

  38. If it is completely ruined, then why are you still here...or still playing UO?

This is why I said almost ruined.

Didn't vote but... my interest in PvP has increased over the last few months and I have been wandering around Fel more and more lately...

For those who don't recall... the times before Tram was not always a gank fest... you left town... you went on hunts... you were able to train skills... you played the game and learned to survive... lately while in Fel I realized that is a huge aspect of the game that I had been missing... the *oh sh#t* factor that you get when you are hunting and another group rolls in...

The reason that I flipped over to Tram was two-fold...
    1. There was no more housing available
    2. I only had dial-up and a really slow machine which made me really ineffective at PvP

Regardless... balance is good... the game has always been about changing, adapting, surviving...

  40. Balance is good.

Nerfing any specific class/template/play style out of existance is not.

Some people are not looking for balance, they are looking for retribution because they cannot defeat a specific template.

  41. J0KING

    J0KING Guest

By having one undefeatable template you are then out of balance... PvP should not be about beating the template but about out skilling the player...

Think of balance this way... Rock, Paper, Scissors...
    Rock beats Scissors...
    Scissors beats Paper...
    Paper beats Rock...

By having one template that is unbeatable it changes it to...
    Rock beats Scissors...
    Scissors beats Paper...
    Paper loses to Rock...

Ahh witch brings us to a point where a Specific template becomes overpowered and has to be toned down. All you have to do is look to see what all the other PvPers are running and that will tell you its overpowered. There are only 3 templates That are viable today that are the most common. Running shot ConCus. archers, Necromages, Tamers. All 3 have to be dealt with to some degree. Untill all template possibilities are balanced and can be effective against any other things it should be fixed to reach that point.

No, im not playing UO anymore. I quit a while ago, shortly after Modain's Legacy. I just couldnt take it anymore. The towns were all but abandoned on Cats, save for the spammers in Luna bank. All of the people I played with quit. The peerlesses and PvM became repetitve and boring. The PvP was wrecked and pointless. Crafting was obsolete. All of the reasons I liked UO were gone or nerfed into oblivion.

The reason Im on here, the forums, is to keep an eye on things. Im hoping the developers come to their senses and put in retro servers. If they did that, I would re-activate all of my accounts and start playing again in a heart beat, so would many other players.

  46. CORRECTUO

    CORRECTUO Guest

And I can tell you for a fact that thousands stayed because of the PvP. If the PvP was so bad and so rampant and held so many players back, then explain all of the houses, vendor shops, large guilds, and 7x GM players there were? Hmmm? How do you explain all of that? How do you explain the 100,000+ players that were on UO back in t2a and before trammel?

Yeah, I PK'd. I PK'd reds and anyone else who attacked me. PK'ing was just reserved for people who killed blues, it was anyone who killed another player's character. And when I wasnt fighthing reds, I was in the dungeons killing trolls, ogre lords, lich lords, and I spent a lot time at the bone wall too.

The only people who had issue with the PvP were the people who couldnt handle it, that simple. Instead of just leaving UO and going to play EQ or something else, they came on the forums and she-dogged over and over until the devs caved in and made trammel.

If you want nonsense, read your own post. There is no way an entire guild can get camped like that. Its sad when people have to resort to lies to keep up their weak arguments.

If that guild had a keep, they could have just banned the theives and killers from it. Problem solved. Same applied for the people who owned shops. "I Ban Thee", three simple words that solved a lot of problems. Thats what I did when a red was waiting to ambush me in my shop. I ban thee and the person was ejected from the house.

But your little story about the guild having their keep camped by the reds, thats just plain, flat out bull if I have ever heard it. If that was the case, it would have attracted the attention of every anti-red guild on the server and a war would have erupted and the reds would have been driven off. People helped other people back then, and an event like that would have drawn the attention of every player on the server.

The solution to all of this is simple. The devs can put in seperate retro servers and you dont have to play them. You can stay on your post-AOS servers and leave those of us who want the real UO back alone.

    Exactly!!

  48. So which is it, a specific template, or 3 templates?

Or is it just any template you don't run?

This is my point. Not every template is effective. And certainly not every template is as effective against other templates as others. This is called variety. And having variety allows players to choose different play styles instead of standing toe to toe and trading blows to see whose weapon is superior.

I can understand that there has to be balancing passes. There always has been. But at the same time, nerfing a template because a vocal minority of players don't know how to play against that template is ridiculous.

  49. It isn't the template that is overpowered, it is the Greater Dragon. Remove the GD or make the damage in-line with other pets. You can still play a tamer but without the overpowered creature that was never intended for PvP.

You could do all the templates your saying are gimp years ago, ( apart from the greater dragon )

I didn't hear you complain back then, but now that people actually use the templates your all crying..

This game has been ruined by trammies, not pvpers, not scripters or hackers but trammies ruin everything in this game to do with pvp.

cry more, if you can't handle people being better than you and running a better template than you, change your template and quit crying. Why is it that I don't have trouble against any of the gimp templates, the chuggers, the faction aid users and all the rest...

learn to deal with it or eventually this game is just going to be pure mage v mage combat with nothing else but a 50/50 decider on who wins the fight.
