I made a 'bronze shield' out of bronze ingots and then altered it to a gargoyle shield and it worked.

Why was I not able to alter this? Every time I tried it said "You cannot alter that item."

I tried to imbue the shield to force off the self repair... but when I tried that it said the ingredients of my shield are too old to survive the attempt.

How the hell else am I supposed to get a shield with 15 hci and 1 fc?

If you can find one that was not enhanced, you should be able to enhance and convert it. There was a patch which enabled you to imbue and presumably convert newly enhanced items.

Bleh... seems like an overlooked bug to me.

Oh well, I re-worked my suit and was able to go with the SA chaos shield with FC 1 and 20% soul charge.

And side note - WOW at how easy it is to build gargoyle suits.

The only beef I have with it is that HCI is pretty much impossible to cap without putting some on your weapon or on a shield.

    Hi,

I'm sorry for hi-jacking the post, but my concern is at least tangent to the topics discussed here.

I've finally decided to catch up on imbuing, and making myself my first gargoyle character, and I find myself completely clueless. How do I know which arties can be altered, and which cannot? I myself find it extremly hard to build a gargoyle suit (caster), but I know too little of it. I've browsed and searched for info, but only find details. Anyone know a good source for general info?

Again - sorry for hi-jacking. Very thankful for advice!

yup... 62 resist points on gargoyle barbed vs 47 on human/elf lets you save sooo many resist imbues... garg mages should be running around with more hp than melee classes lol

though there are several artis you cant use- they just cant be altered. rbg comes to mind but its not really one of the ones i like anyway

and the big flapping wings are a real pisser when it comes to targeting. wish we could make gargs with little cupid wings hahah

err i dont know if theres a list anywhere but i just tried altering faction or crappy artis nobody cared about. i also took a look at what people are wearing. and checked item DBs for gargoyle specific stuff. gargs are great for mystic and tamers.

Hi, thanks for clearing things out for me. Sounds like I should start working on my imbuer ASAP, in order to get my garg mage running.

There won't be any room in my template for wrestling or 100 anatomy, so do you have any advice on -mage weapon for gargs? Imbue something one-handed with -20 mage? Same dilema (i.e. same arsenal to choose from) weapon-wise as human/elf mages, or do gargs have further restrictions (apart from bows)?

Really no need to answer that question, I can check it out when home from work. I mainly wanted to say thanks.

    Cheers!

again gargs have it good in this dept. while humans and elves have planeswords, gargs get +25% DCI on boomerangs. which operate at range to interrupt, as well are 1-handed for chugging. i made my garg this:

    mage weap -20
    sc no penalty
    dci 25
    di 25

i would love to somehow drop the DI on a non exceptional weapon and add mana leech or hit fireball instead. unfortunately there's not enough weight available with 25 DCI so i went with exceptional instead. i guess you could avoid adding the FC1 and work 3 FC into your suit and have the weight.
