why was the turkey event so awesome and how the dev's should look to it as to when adding content/events

    1) the turkeys were hard enough to do but could be solo'd
    2) they were a 2 prong event in the turkey killing and the map fragments to the finding the nest.
    3) turkeys were in multiple places

other events that were great was the halloween essence run to get those blue/yellow/red crystals
multi tier'd quests in that you progress to harder and harder quests.

so in the future it doesnt take alot of new content but content that has more then a simple reward and more then a simple action.

maybe if you want to inagrate into the event a upgrade that if multiple people are doing it can do the upgraded part. in turkey event if you added in a super turkey that may spawn that gave a larger reward. etc etc

A fun event for Halloween would be to have the Devs arrange for a few hardcore Pvpers from each shard to be able to each run a 10k hp peerless flavor monster with 120 Magery, Mysticism, and melee weapon skills and set them free to whomp stomp and tromp all over the tram facet killing as they please. It would be a great change from the usual fare. :)

I really liked the Orc event in Delucia some 5-7 years ago. The one that introduced the dark bow, and the golden orc helms (Can't remember specific names).

Was plenty fun being shot by archers while they were invis. while everyone hunted them down.

NB, That was at least 9 years ago, because those were established parts of the game when I started playing at the beginning of AOS.

Yes, Time does fly when you are having fun... :)

I think we can all agree most events are great. The city invasions and Magincia event are probably the best. I remember when the first city invasions began with the Orcs. I was so excited to get my first orc scout bow.

lol, most events were great up till these days.
They need to remember not everyone runs in packs of 5 or even 2.
Most people i know solo events or would if the mob wasnt insanely hard.

Why they have gravitated to the WOW sort of event where 10 peeps need to be present to even damage the beastie is beyond me.

Apart from guilds and PvP, UO is a solo player game now. they made it that way with ML.
Once gone it will never be reclaimed not matter how hard they make the mobs, peeps just wont even bother unless it's solo'able.
Oh and by solo'able i dont mean wearing the uber suits that a couple of people have had the supid amounts of gold to buy.
I dont care how good these suits are i am not paying 200mill to own one!!

My basic point is bring events back into the realm of EVERyBODY being able to take part, hell its its drops peeps are after then turn the drop rates down. Its not rocket science.
But to start making world events where ony a few can take part anyway is just plain stupid.

That was a "scenario"! Which were a whole lot of fun back then, lasting events that added lots of actual content into the game. Solens was the second and last "scenario" if I remember correctly. Both the orc and solen scenarios were awesome, and involved.

I was super sad to see the scenario model pass by the wayside for the kind of events we have now a days.

Helm was the Evil Orc Helm.

Also don't forget the Orc Mask.

I have liked a good variety of events, and shall continue to, I expect.

UO has benefited mightily from having a good variety of content and from types of content.

Does anyone remember, like way back, the event with the arcane mages and the power generator, or some such? it was late nineties or early millennium, I think, one of my hazier periods, but I think it was the one that introduced arcane gems. I loved that one. Random groups of players congealing into battles all along tram roads (was there even tram/fel then?), just loved running into battles by accident and trying to be one of the few who got to the control panel puzzle or whatever.

okay, that was even hazier than I expected.

Yeah, that's when the power generators spawned in the other facets. They can still be found in Ilshenar in that corner below the desert and gargoyle city. I think that was actually the introductory "scenario" for AOS when Lord Blackthorn was trying to make a comeback. That's what the betrayers were all about because Blackthorn was actually a betrayer himself. (both in an in-game and roleplaying sense)

That's one of the few events that I'm sad that I wasn't able to participate in. When Lord Blackthorn was slain and the weapons known as Treachery were dropped.

It would be kool to see them get more into the main story line again and delve more into what Exodus is all about. We've encountered the Shadow Lords, Lord Blackthorn, and I believe even Minax. Mondain is out of the question. But supposedly, Exodus has actually been behind some of the events that have passed lately but no one has actually ever encountered him/it. I believe Exodus is even suppose to be the offspring of Mondain and Minax according to lore.

LoL, Stratics actually shows that Exodus has its own graphic for UO. Looks like a red balron.

And for something off topic, does anyone remember the black gate demon from Haven when it was first around? What was its purpose and history?

I was kind of wondering if those in Ilsh were the same, good to see some old relics lying around. And you're right, too, about exodus' parental ties. Stratics is probably more right than I, but I have some vague recollection of exodus, in the old lore, being a humanoid mad scientist/mage sort.

Unfortunately I didn't really explore the exodus dungeon until the spring cleaning a few years back, but that whole area-- the exodus dungeon, old gargoyle city-- would be a great setting to tie old and new lore together. Maybe I'm just getting old, but the minax/exodus/blackthorne etc storylines seem a far richer, though oddly neglected, mine for event possibilities than more recent additions to the canon.

And I do vaguely remember the black gate demon from haven. all I can remember, though, is being told to return when ready, but never actually doing so.

the blackgate demon in new haven was part of the KR newb quests. Youd get a rune that would bring you back to him after your skills were higher. he gave the trainer item that was a early form of the Crystal ball of knowledge. (it was a shrunk npc graphic)

The orc/savage fights were around the days of Dawns first arrival (remembers the mcfarlane comics that came with AoS) The controllers used the golems and savages to help bring exodus into our world. also brought the juka and meer into our realm. Adranath tried to cleanse our world but instead screwed up and made Yew a swamp. The finale was the controller towers and finally a battle against Exodus in ilshnar, back when only 3rd dawn players could goto Ilshnar.
    Good times, good times.

This post is a reply to a couple of posters who appeared to be conflating multiple scenarios.

Orcs/Savages was a scenario called The Savage Empire. The Juka invasions, Lord Blackthorn's return as an evil half-machine monstrosity, the controllers/golems and the evil towers, and Exodus's appearance were a related series of scenarios that occurred roughly a year or so later? (I question myself on the exact timing.)

In no particular order, this cluster of scenarios included the plague in Yew, the liberation of the Garogyle City in Ilshenar, and Blackthorn's transformation.

Lord Blackthorn's actual attacked on Yew, wherein Dawn killed him, didn't take place until awhile later, in the immediate aftermath of the Age of Shadows expansion.

All of these events/scenarios took place after the Fel/Tram split, which actually occurred very early on in our history. Way earlier than it seems anyone remembers.

I guess my original post i am suggesting not so much towards events but normal quests or things to do.
the new monster you fish up is too hard to solo. need something that is hard but solo-able that you fish up.
same for those new demons in tel mur. maybe mix in some lesser demons that are half as tough.

Have to agree with some of the posters the best events for me have been ones where I don't end up dying repeatedly for no reason.

The moonglow rift that began the SA stuff was dreadful nothing was worth attacking because it killed you too easily everytime - in the end it was partly this event that led to me taking a break from UO.

Magincia invasion was an awesome event - mostly things were able to be soloed with some effort and the rewards were just good enough. The later parts with the exploding moongate etc werent so much fun but certainly the early part was good.

The invasion outside moonglow (about 5 years ago now i think) during the book of truth event was fun i had not long started on europa and had such a blast dispelling those pesky revenants from people and killing the various spawns. Easily the event i've enjoyed the most and I was in a cheap armor suit and skills that werent GM or above and I could still compete.

Does anyone remember before KR came along and Haven was blown up there was the daemon seemingly locked inside the building all characters started in, what happened to that daemon?

Yea I have a hard time remembering the years any more. A lot has gone on in life in the past 10 years. As with any thread of this kind I will simply say...I miss the old days.

EDIT: Hell, a lot has gone on in the last 14!

Actually, the "Black Gate Demon" was labeled "Servant of Semidar", and was bound there by the guy that gave the AoS paladin quest.

The fiction went, with the intro of New Haven and KR, that when the island blew up, Haven City wasn't as destroyed as it appears now, partially protected by the magics laid down to protect it (back when it was only accessible by new players) - but the south end of town WAS nearly destroyed, and it disrupted the circle binding the Demon.

Uzzeran and the Demon got into a fierce battle that resulted in most of the destruction north of the old mage shop, that ended up with the latter disappearing (fate unknown whether it was a win, loss or draw), and Uzzeran being driven mad by failing to prevent the city's destruction. In his dark madness, he created the fortress that was the KR/SA client new character start area, trying to rebuild what was lost, and became the "Dark Knight of Old Haven" that the character met in the tutorial, and got a rune to "the darkness" to fight.

Thanks for that Basara I never did see the fiction on this anywhere to know what happened. I remember when it was less destroyed for a very short while when Haven MG was at the south corner on a tiny piece of land all on its own.
