Why UO is missing an in-game players' gathering "sign-up" system ?

I have never understood, especially with Ultima Online increasing its lands (players more scattered all over meaning it is more difficult for them to find each other) and player base diminishing, why over the years, we almost reached 12 years of age for the game, a system for players logged online to sign each other up for group playing was never done, at least that I may know of.
It would ease players to find other players doing some particular play.

For example, say that I feel doing Doom; rather than going to Doom and wait who knows for how long without knowing whether or not eventually anyone else will show up there, I think it would be good for the game and for players that the game had some built in system (for example a board or a NPC to leave one's own availability...) where players could leave up their availability on doing specific things like Peerless, Doom or a number of other things which require a group of players to do (Arcane circles also).

When a sufficient number of players sign up and show to the system as all online at the same one time the system sends a message to all of them saying to gather shortly to that place so that they can start their group hunt together.

This way, players could use their time in a better way and do other things in the meanwhile that their group gets formed for that particular group hunt.

Yes, there are Guilds and guild chats but not necessarily guild members may be online at the same one time one may want to do a given hunt, being able to play with the entire player base of the server rather than the limited number of a Guild gives more options to a player to be able to play that particular group hunt faster.

Alliances are good for gathering people together for group activity.

KR also has a "global" chat feature in it that can be used to reach other KR client users in-mass. This can be used to meet strangers for group activities.

That would be a great way to attract pks...at least on Siege.

HEY!!! Wait an hour and there will be a bunch of players (insert location here). Please come and kill us...la

Even better than just a global chat, it allows for creation of custom channels - you could set up a blacksmith channel or a vet channel or a "peerless party-up" channel so that anyone could put up the bat signal for a service without having to spam the whole shard. However, such things only become useful if there is a critical mass of players who would use it.

(as for PKing opportunities Rico, it would also be good for a RP-PvP channel that summoned PvPers to different battlefields)

These chat chanels just make the game more like wow, we will even be on the same interface soon enough. Not that im complaining, but if they are going to make everything else 'wow-ified' then i want an ingame AH and internal game mail so you can email your own chars on your own acount things.

honestly i would like to see a massive restructuring of the town crier system. you should be able to pay them to espouse news, either globally of localy (all town criers or just that one) and they should alert players when certian champ spawns are being activated. what else is there. maybe if there are over 15 people in a dungeon it could announce a siege of *insert antivirtue dungeon here* all kinds of stuff really.

Other games came up with the chat channel thing long before WoW was around. Seriously. It's not the only game out there.
