Wow, is this lag ever going to be fixed?

I know its been holidays and such, but come on, some people want to actually be able to play without all this choppy lag.

Are you just getting lag every 45 seconds, or all the time?

At the moment, we have random lag spikes, random freezes and very regular crashes on recall/sj or going through gates. Like, yesterday, it happened at least a dozen times to me over a few hours of play. I lagged out so bad that the friend I was cross healing died horribly, and me shortly after him and all I saw was us both go from fully healed to dead in a second. I also froze repeatedly, and I know now that since the dishes in our net hops are fine, it's got to be something else. Also, hubby and I play on the same net work, me on a desk top, him on a lap top. He lags, I don't. I lag, he doesn't. If someone will PM how to do trace route or whatever else is wanted to send in bug reports, I'll happily do that. Bear in mind that I'm utterly hopeless with computers, so make it easy please :)

Exactly, this lag makes it slim to impossible to pvp, especially when almost everyone else is not experiencing it, or so it seems.

And, AGAIN - just like every other time you've posted that trace, Snakeman -

IT'S A PROBLEM WITH THE ALTER.NET GATEWAY ROUTER LEADING TO EA, NOT ONE THAT EA CAN FIX ITSELF.

the ea-gw2.customer.alter.net router is the problem, and it is maintained by ALTER.NET - not EA. If you send EA a specific report concerning that router, they can COMPLAIN to alter.net about the issue, but it is up to alter.net as to if and when it is fixed. Annoying, but a fact of life when having to deal with net backbone issues (especially the point where the data leaps off the backbone to the end-users).

When EA wants to know about traces and the like, when it's NOT their hardware, but that leading into their hardware, they need to know specifics as to who to complain to.

At least you are making the effort to identify the issue - SuperGrapes just complains, with no way to diagnose the issue.

Well add me to one of the "just complainers" because I have been lagging horribly for 2 months.

It's not my job to investigate their problems for them. I don't pay a monthly fee to do any investigating. I expect them to fix it, not me.

It is in EA's interest normally to check the peering too... at least blizzard does that too in wow...

For all that lag I can just say either pester your isp and ea's to get it fixed or take a few months break. My connection always got better after 2-3 months when routers got fixed or new hardware bought or not getting routed half around the world.

Up to a ping of 1000 and 20% packettloss uo was playable for roleplaying.

At a ping of 2000 and loss over 20% it is just better to do something else.

Its not my isp obviously, since alot of people are expierencing lag, its ea.

Only a very small percentage of you are experiencing lag (albeit a vocal percentage). It's not enough to warrant action by Mega EA Corporation (MEC for short). EA! Big! Strong! Wow! EA owns the entire galaxy. Yes, even your little kitten.

Then you will never get your problem fixed, as odds are it's on your end or somewhere on the internet backbone before EA ever sees it. A simple traceroute would clarify the situation.

It's just YOUR problem, until you can show otherwise. Your situation is like insisting that you have a car with a defective suspension because it rides rough, without looking to see if your tires are properly inflated, and refusing to acknowledge that you only drive on cobblestone streets.

And, "A lot of people" is a null statement.

"A lot of people" are also NOT getting your lag issue - if I wanted to be an arse about it, I could say, using your logic, that there are no lag problems.

my trace route is fine, nothing goes above 80, no packet loss, polled 100. but the lag is very real and I am still getting it and have been since a few months ago, but it has only gotten worse
