  1. Well lets see.

All new treasure chest loot fully saturated. CHECK.
All new fishing loot fully saturated. CHECK.
All invasion items fully saturated. CHECK.
All items dyed with metallic tub. CHECK.
All items dyed with white cloth tub. CHECK.

All Smuggler Caches fully saturated. CHECK.

Dang... now what do I do.

Seems to me, UO is a bit lacking now-a-days. The Devs have dried up. Maybe one of them could talk about bringing exploration and adventuring back to the game.

The new changes were fun. But as you can see, once added it doesnt take long for them to saturate the markets and achieve low prices.

Devs? Exlporation and adventuring. Any ideas?

Exploration and adventuring isn't something easy to add in..

I guess maybe cool monsters that spawn in random spots throughout the world, and I mean like completely random, not 5 set locations.
  3. Dicimiie

Biggest problem would be that in order to add more exploration, they'd probably have to add more land mass. In doing so, the population becomes even more spread out than it already is, leading people to feel that their shard is even more empty.

I suppose they could also change the current land masses around a bit. But even that would be problematic.

  5. Yep the operative word is FARM. I didnt come to UO to farm. I came to explore and seek adventure.

Why? That will put me to sleep even more. COMA. 75% of that stuff is saturated. The other stuff I would just buy if I wanted it.

How about freshening up the dungeons with some random encounters?

How about dropping some odd stuff on the monsters with no rhyme or reason?

I heard a cavern opened in shame. Its unstable, it might close by days end.

The last thing we need is MORE UNUSED land.

I wish they disabled recall, destroyed Trammel, and brought back the days where people ran (even on foot) from place to place.

But until then, I guess I'll still find entertainment in different venues.

That will keep me from sleep walking.

I am actually waiting to see what Mag Rebuilding is all about.

Yep I am a addict. Just wish Devs would address adventuring and exploration.

I don't have a cook or a herder. I guess I could do that. YEEHAH.

Take suggestions from folks regarding which shards really need some fresh merchandising efforts. Select a couple of them. Pick characters that can go traveling from Atlantic out to the hinterlands, load them up with all kinds of goodies and off you go! It'll keep both you and the kids busy, especially with spring break looming.
  12. Thats a good idea.

I do have a characture on Pacific doing that.
She actually got a red log. A yule tide log (2010). I havent seen one around anywhere. I was only 1 million.

    Maybe I have something.

The characture there might be the one you helped me with a longtime ago. Shes been moving through the shards since losing all that gold on Origin. AH THE BAD MEMORIES.

get away from the computer. better yet shut it down for weeks, months, years. it sounds as you are in great danger of loosing sense of rl. there is abundance of old and new to do in UOgame as games go. get out.:twak:
  14. What is new?
    Maybe I overlooked it.

I can take my marginal mage, macer with a slayer weapon(s). And wipe out any dungeon, alone. Woohoo.

I guess I could go naked and work my way through with nothing but what I find and kill.

To get to the end and find..... NADA. Cause I saw it there yesterday, weeks, ago, a few months back, a year ago, a decade ago. Wait thats it. UO is great if you just started in the last 2 years.

Damn its my fault. Blame me for playing to long. I am at fault. Oh the pain Oh the agony.

I couldn't disagree more with the gripers. I've just recently returned to UO after a 5 year explorations of other MMOs including DDO, LOTR, WoW, and Eve. All had cool graphics. DDO has really fun figthing imo. But after a short while--well 2 years in DDOs case--the all get terribly BORING. Now after returning to UO for a couple of months, I realize that 'hot' graphics are overrated. The thing none of these other games has, and UO does, is FREEDOM. Freedom to do whatever you want to do--I'm glad I'm back, and will stay until they shut us down.

Sounds like the ancient D&D DM World balancing. Give the group everything they desire to fast and create more work for yourself. Let then skill level to fast and easy loot snowballs into nothing challanging to fight. To many long breaks in a storyline with added destractions before the end can make it unfun for even the story teller to even want to finnish.

The RNG hurdle is to low on drops. When two players work together doing the event guard and both get a Defiler, and one got a defiler from the guard before the double drop. Is way to easy. I can understand it is new fey slayer for sword skill. Mage and archer covered. Guess we get to look forward to when the fencer and macer get their day. It is just the thinking they need to make sure everyone will need one is a shot in the foot. Everyone needs one but running event string or even having a rotation of what is dropped like in Doom will meet demands.

Doom would still be a success if new stuff was added leaving in the old as fluff. Mace and fence Fey Slayer added to list. AoF alternate armor type same stats. More two linked item drops like the bow and quiver or sword and shield or ring and bracelet. Jackle's 15dex made random from now on 15 total stats. Or new linked item activations that have reduced mods if both worn.

AS far as powergaming, easy play or getting around game mechanics when ya know it is a legal wrong. Well then it is the players fault they are bored. Those that fish with a match and dynamite vs a worm and a hook in the same lake. The fisher that worked and toiled, their dinner's fish will taste much better.

I would blame the games failings on the thinkers. Not the players, artist, codemages or money grubbers. I blame the person that thinks a 1 in 4 chance is better then 1 in 100 chance. They would know what was better if they spent any time in the trenches and conversed with the troops. I would rather have a rare drop of one with snowball in hell luck on a second for great profit. Then doing the same grind time and getting 30+ knowing can't sell then all worth a damn. And then sucking up lockdowns hoping the next cleanup will have them on the list. More clean ups with rotating shorttime drops could solve more issues.

If you'd like a fresh outlook on UO might I suggest the following?

    1. Deactivate all UO accounts for a set period ... say 60 days.
1a. Do not uninstall any UO client
1b. Do keep up with any UO patches
    2. After that, play some of the 60-minute trial games available from GameHouse or Pogo to get your mind all numbed up.
    3. Acquire the 14-day trial of DAOC and setup a character. Run it thru training. Half-Orc Theurgist should be a good one.
    4. When using DAOC, also register and join in on the IGN Vault forums for the game and just look thru posts and so forth.
    5. At the end of the trial and the 60-day UO hiatus compare experiences between mind-numbing, depressing and UO.

You'll be back - 1a and 1b will save re-entry time. I'm personally a bit slow and only at stages 3 & 4. If you want true depression, DAOC is the way to go ... UO is teeming with life in comparison.
  20. I love the life in UO. IM just saying there is nothing to explore and little adventuring.

Take pirating. Great. Fun. Done. Same on same old.
You cant visit any dungeon and find anything new.

How many Defilier of something fey slayer do I need.

Lets move along Devs. Move along.

I am building a commerce center. That keeps me engaged.

So were you doing this stuff to make big profits or to "enjoy" the content?

Both those things are not mutually exclusive. People who play to "enjoy" the game do so, with out thinking of turning a buck. People who do content for major profit farm through the game as fast as possible.

I find it silly though. Gold in UO is the easiest currency to come by in all the MMO games out there. What's the point of selling things for high profits, unless you are just playing to sell the gold irl.

It is easy to get burned out if your are playing for gathering items and selling them. Eventually, other players will tire of paying someone for things they can either hunt for or make themselves.

In the years I have played, I became too tired of paying more for items than I could earn. I stopped being lazy and created my own crafter. I became brave enough to go to Fel to get my own powerscrolls, etc. Others dd the same. What happened next? Vendors come to these boards and complain that things are too easy. They want others to fail where they've acheived so that it would get so hard to get artis, scrolls, etc. that players would give up and continue to buy them.

I still find so much to do in this game. I haven't hunted in months as I spend so many hours each day decorating houses, managing plants to make dyes, etc.

I do know, however, that it can really get boring for some people. I know a young lady who opened an account, GM skills in about 4 months, and accumulated well over 300 mil gold. After doing all this in short time, she got bored quick. She dumped the account and moved on to another game, as there was nothing left challenging for her.

i know the feeling your talking about , running trough all the new stuff , then figuring what shall i do next ,

often had that aswell usualy some time after a new expansion, booster or global event ,

but as most people mention if you like the game , then find something new to do .

try out a shop or vendors , you dont have to be a big time trader to set that up.

start decorating that house you have

make new chars , or try out new skills

    change guild

try out something you never done before , get those daily rares yourself for once ,

hunt something else(not as in farming) just other locations known or new ,
a good old travesty can be fun with a group.

mayby even start doing rp for a while , build up a char with no powergaming at all. or any usage of faster gains ,

and yes mayby make a red or pvper , if you like that

help and guide some newbies , not only by dumping your unwanted minors on them, but take them out hunting

ofcourse i realize , you can buy anything in uo,so often there aint no use to hunt or do certain stuff, same counts for pvm, you can solo almost everything but often its way more fun to go with a group

i hope any of the above helps you get back on track :pint:

  31. I've a proposal. If the Devs allow the *players* to create new areas/dungeons, that will go a long way into making UO dynamic with ever new challenges, and will boost the creativity factor in UO.

How could this be done? Well, someone suggested making UO free to play, in a bid to reverse an ever dwindling playerbase population. Sounds good, but for paying customer accounts, there should be paying-accounts-only perks, such as being able to create mini-dungeons in the basement of their homes.

Such mini-dungeons will of course have to be more than 18x18, perhaps the combined land space of nine 18x18s? Players can choose from all kinds of terrains, and all kinds of monsters (but without loot, to abuse scripting/farming). Any treasures (eg. gold, arties, etc) within such player-dungeons will come out of the home owner's own pockets.

There may be technical issues, eg. lag, but such issues are not unsolvable, for instance, adding more dedicated servers for such player-dungeons. And if such a plan successfully implemented could successfully bring in more new, paying customers for UO, it's all worth it.

Oh dear! You really want to challenge people, don't you? How many folks even use a torch now - or know where to get one? You're a very cruel person.

But it is fun, isn't it? Er, the poke, poke, jab, jab **and** the torchlit dungeon crawl.
  35. Im just saying, chests are fun, why make it known what you will get.

Lets just say keep it as is... Now add in a random chance to find one of anything from all the drops in the land. It might be useless or rare.

See how do we know what is in the chest. WE SHOULDNT. Just tweak some of the systems.

Remove items, add items, stop attaching everything to specifics.
  36. pvping brings a lot of adventure. whether you are doing champions, harrowers, field pvp, 1v1, or group fighting, there is a lot to offer and many different templates to try.

try setting up your own felucca runs during the off hours. (most runs only take 2-5 people to finish depending on the boss)

you mention you don't want to farm, but you seemed to have no issue in farming or collecting all the invasion, treasure map, pirating, and fishing items. scalis is a great adventure, and the item drop chance is rather low. try collecting all his items.

a lot of the adventure and excitement in this game comes from it's player-base, save solo activities for when there is nobody around.
  37. Farming isnt bad. Its just the state of the game.

As for farming myself. I dabble.

I got my defilers by buying them. I bought 2 for 555k each. Took one to Luna and sold it for 1 million. Time spent 10 minutes.

Fishing and treasure hunting I added to try it. Did it. Got the stuff. And was like how many damn vines do I need.

Farming for me is more about my merchants. Others farm, I buy, I resell.

After doing that for a bit, Id love to go wander the realm and find random adventure.

PvP is okay. But I know what I will get. I really don't care if I kill a player. Death last about a second.

I do a lot. That is the strength of the game. BUT BUT... it could be stronger. Some very good posts above by players on what to add.

Join a faction - you can pretend on RP a bit and death kinda lasts 20 minutes then.

Also, try and find thing you haven't done yet or not in a long time. Like rare champs, did you ever see Ilhenir the Stained? Or secret words - how many secret places with passworts (brit sewers, reg volom, etc) do you know? are there maybe more? Set yourselfs some goals like going through the labyrinth, killing each named monster once, ending with meraktus. Or hop onto another shard and start an RP character. Maybe a troubled orphan with only his fathers dagger.

There's still stuff to do ;)
  39. you spoke of how items saturate as they are added to the game, but you failed to mention that these items are ones that are easy to get and have little or no function. it just seems you want the chance for better rewards for doing the monotonous and simple things that UO has to offer (like a random item in your treasure chest).

champion spawns drop replicas, very good, very functional, and highly sought after items. these are very random as they go to those who have loot rights only and just a chance to get them like an artifact. you only know what you're going to get if you know the entire list of what that champion can drop, and even then, it's only a chance at that list.

corgul drops multitudes of SOTs each attempt, never knowing if you're going to get a good or bad skill. his loot is almost on a guaranteed drop rate, and some of the items are actually decent for pvp (creating a market since most pvpers dont pvm).

scalis, as said before, has extremely good items, with a low drop rate. the adventure offered here is not the same that UO has offered before. using boats and cannons make for added features that couldn't be used prior against end-boss types.

i agree, there could always be more, but it's only been a few weeks since the winter break, let them fix the bugs first.

But he wanted something challenging... ;) And I'm pretty sure Raven knows where torches can be obtained.

It's huge fun, and often surprises you how little you know even well-explored dungeons at times..... I'd seriously recommend it as a break from your usual activities, hell what do you stand to lose apart from some crafter gear?

In part though, there is a serious point too - in UO, you can define a lot of how hard things are, what you can and can't do, and what challenges you. Just because you know the most 'efficient' way to optimise a template and equipment doesn't mean you absolutely must do that every time - it's a game, and if doing something differently for a change is fun, then you are missing the point if you choose not to do it that way. It's part of the overall meaning of 'sandbox' that people keep on quoting, some things can be up to you rather than needing the devs to do things to keep you entertained.

  42. I cant really profit. I dont sell antying in real life. When ebay was around I did.

I do merchant because it is enjoyable. I enjoying that. Once yu get good at it. You turn very hugh in game profits. Part of the problem is, I have a lot of gold because of it. And the game itself has no dump for gold.

Now before someone says something silly like give it away. I do give a lot away. The problem is I can also buy anything. Yet I still have armour that isnt 70's or maxed out. You dont need much to kill monsters in this game.

So to answer your questions - yes but not with the American dollar. What I am looking for is adventure and explortion that has little to do with gold or selling items. Yes I want items to be discovered. But nothing that needs to sell for stupid amounts.

    My ideas would be
A hued lantern that says Acquired By Raven on 1/28/11

fun stuff no crazy armour or weapons.
  43. anna I dont fully disagree with you but there isnt much difference between digging up a chest and doing corgul.

The are repeat, repeat, reward, repeat, reward. Always the same. Both slot machines.

Id take finding a tweaked up corgul or baby corgul on the 6th floor of Shame. Yep because an landslide temporary opened something. What will you find? You won't know.

And As I just wrote. Buy selling, swapping and turning. There is nothing I cant buy in 10 minutes vs spending hours doing the same champ over and over again. Hoping to get some item.

Let me give you a point.

    Metallic Dye tub.
I sold 2 for 15 million from my rewards. That 30 million. First days they came out.

I bought one back for 7.5 million and locked it down. That is 22.5 million in profit. Add in some tubs I swapped for 20%.

I captured nearly 30 million. Or something I cant recall.

Now I have 30 million to buy what every I need form corgul without having to rinse, repeat, rinse repeat.

The difference about 35 hours of time. And the real differnce is what must I buy to kill monsters. NADA. So I let the gold sit on my vendor. After 11 years... dang thats a lot of gold. Let me buy a basement for my house for 100 million.

Just like everyone else I've got all the money in game that I will ever need but that doesn't mean that in order to play the game I do not have to play. Saying stuff like "I could just buy the item instead of trying to get it and therefor the game is borked" is the wrong way to look at it. Yes it's all a grind but which game isn't?

Are you in a guild? Do you all use ventrilo or team speak? I don't play this game anymore for the excitment but more for the chat that occurs daily in my server. Well this and being killed by/killed other players...that never gets old.

  45. Havent said the game is borked. Just that there is a lack of random content for adventuring and exlporing.

    Been in factions. Guilds.

I am staying busy with all that content.

Tell me this Bane thing isnt a snoozefest.

Tell me the fishmongers stuff isnt saturated.

Tell me NPC pirates isnt saturated.

The point is why would I go and hunt a pirate ship for x hours, when everything they have can be bought in 20 minutes.

    The game is missing something.

Im Having fun right now building a 100 vendor commerce center in Ter Mur. Even meeting people and players and teaching some of them.

But that doesn't mean exlporation and adventuring cant be tweaked.

Sadly I dont see the fun in killing a player or being killed. Nothing is lost or gained. I just dont see the game fun in insta rez, insurance, lousy looting, and confined PvP. Thats a whole other story that is pointless to discuss.

Ill give you all a tip for the upcoming Mag Rebuilding. Buy up all the ingot and wood deeds that are cheap. The game is as predictable as the Redskins spending millions and not making the playoffs.

And there are good suggestions I use. However, a lot of them are like saying dump your 120 blacksmithing and start over.

THATS WHAT I AM SAYING... stop making it the same old. It ain't hard.

I havent being playing much at all lately. We could always run to a local tavern and chat about the good times. There just isnt many non-pvp UO vets around anymore. Most moved on. Being there done that. Like I said when they made things too easy and oversaturated the market at the same time they destroyed any real long term goals many non-pvp vets had. So We can just go chit chat in one of the old taverns in atlantic and pass the time away like old farts.
  47. Truth. I am an old fart.

I have to accept it. The funny thing as the made it easier, it became like an addiction. It had to be made even easier.

Its like titles. It is cool having a title of GLORIOUS LORD. It once met something. It could easily be tied to the virtues. THEN THEN THEN they create this new title system and give you a billion ways to title yourself.
