This is bad news. Blessed faction armor would increase participation and create an incentive to capture towns. Also remember that the number of items you can wear is tied to rank. So you can't just join a faction and never kill anyone. You would need at least rank 6 to wear a complete suit that only lasts 3 weeks. This would revitilize crafting, PVP, farming monsters for silver, etc.

The Siege bless is bad enough. Siege does not need any more blessed items. Go back to trammel...la

Can anyone clear up if Siege allowed faction blessings before it was broken? In the Siege article on UOGuide it mentions faction blessing was possible.

But you could also do the runic hammers on normal shards. So why is it going to be such a big issue on Siege when on normal shards it was not? In fact the issue was worse on normal shards because players could bless their items and run off to Trammel. On Siege there is no safe place to use your blessed items. You will always be attackable by enemy faction players.

There should be no safe place. Items should not be blessable on Siege. there is a reason there is no insurance. This is the same reason factions should not give any type of advantage...la

It would hurt real crafters and destroy what little is left of PvP the way it should be.

I don't want item incentives to capture towns and increase participation. If they can't make factions FUN IN ITSELF without destroying the game with stupid blessing incentives, then they should just dump factions. Either that or they could have a mandatory factions system. But we do NOT NEED to 1) put **** in the game that doesn't belong on Siege, Fel (though imo fel is a lost cause anyway), or most any pvp mmo, or 2) put **** in the game that forces you to do yet more if you want to compete. People who farm, quest, and craft more already have a freaking huge advantage over those who would prefer to just PvP since this game is insanely item-based, even on Siege. Now you suggest to force people to join factions if they want to compete. No thanks. And 3) We shouldn't add stuff that doesn't belong on Siege. And 4) We shouldn't add stuff that doesn't belong on Siege. And 5) We shouldn't add stuff that doesn't belong on Siege. And 6) We shouldn't add stuff that doesn't belong on Siege.

I hope I made it clear to you. You who suggest your "incentives" sound like the people who suggest leaving bolas and dismount in the game to combat speed hackers. Keep the game broken to fix the game. Screw up Siege so more people are in factions. No freaking thanks.

Want faction participation? Then suggest changes that would make factions more fun without hurting Siege or forcing people to join if they want to compete. Or suggest everyone be required to join factions. What fun that would be. Much more risk and danger everywhere for everyone and no worries about precious faction participation since everyone is in it. Though in this case too faction would need to be revamped to make it more fun. Imagine better solutions instead of settling for breaking the game to make it better...that's no solution at all.

JC. I hope our faction crafters can make some cool armor. It will get looted. We will pass it it around, and the crafters will make more. That is how it should be.

It is clear that the current Siege population isn't what it used to be. Faction blessings used to be on Siege but now suddenly it is not acceptable. Pretty much the only real bonus there used to be for owning towns was making blessed armor.

Those who favored faction blessings then were trammies who didn't belong on Siege. Which is why some quit with the loss of their precious blessings. Those who favor it now are just as trammy as they were. Blessings have never belonged on Siege, regardless of whether or not we had them and do have them. They are not in keeping with the spirit of Siege and no matter what they accomplish-whether it be revitalization of factions (and I thought factions was doing well on Siege anyway after taking our population into account?), a healthy population (and it's questionable if blessings would give us a significant population boost), whatever-it pales in comparison to the evil they bring.

That goes for faction blessings or any significant blessings. I can't speak for everyone, but I am not "suddenly" disliking the idea of blessings. I've always disliked blessings and always will. They do not belong in PvP games. Risk, danger, and meaning to death, etc. do, and blessings take away from those good things. Blessings do not belong in any MMO as far as I'm concerned as I see no point in playing MMOs without risk. Siege, the idea of Siege anyway, is the epitome of what MMO games should be. Blessings have no good role to play. It is not sad that we lack faction blessings. It is sad that we have so many other blessings. Siege will never be whole until we are rid of them.

JC you will never win that argument here. Siege is a no-Bless zone. Please move along!

How the hell would you know? People complained about those one hit kill blessed val spear carriers, but there wasn't a lot they could do about it. Those that used faction blessing armor were teased unmercifully. You act like you were there, lol. This was back before HOT was the zerg it is today...la

If the archives were up you could search for "faction blessing" and find twenty incarnations of this exact thread, with these exact arguments coming from pretty much these exact posters, over the course of the last six or seven years.

And in every one, you'll find a quote from me to the effect that giving an entirely theoretical (and probably short-term) boost to one single aspect of Siege Perilous' gameplay at the expense of everything else that makes Siege unique is the stupidest, most short-sighted things I've ever heard.

I am not sure how having to craft one suit of armor, then never craft again revitalizes crafting.

Without bless, I craft my armor, I die and lose it, so i craft more.

Tell me, are there GM armor vendors on your production shard? Do they get lots of business? I am betting there are none. Take a walk around Siege, they are all over.

It is difficult for me to even imagine where your idea that crafters will benefit from bless comes from... its purely asinine.

actually youd be surprised. alot of people went throught up to 10 brarbed kits every 3 weeks just to get their perfect suit. and about people loosing their gm armor vendors, thats not really a way to make money. i bet with leather and vendor costs, the 3k or whatever per suit wont even allow them to get even.

But once they had their perfect suit they never needed to make more.
This results in EA needing to release 'better' equipment, to give a bigger goal to players. Then the process repeats and UO becomes item dependent.

yes. it stayed blessed for 3 weeks. then it was the next set of kits. there were never burned as many kits as then.

UO has always been item dependent. Force, Vanquishing, Hardening, Invul, all made a huge difference in survivability.

The real problem is that all the new changes have to work within the existing 100 hp, 700 skill point framework that UO has had since the very beginning.

With WoW, it's easy to add powerful new weapons, since the level maximum will be bumped hand-in-hand; an increase in damage is offset by an increase in resistances and an increase in max HP.

You simply don't have that flexibility in UO.

Because on normal shards, non factions can insure their items so it don't really matter if an item is blessed or insured.

On Siege however, Factions and non factions do fight each others.
Lets say a red faction player are going to PK you, you are non faction with one Siege blessed item.
If he kill you, he can loot you clean except for one item.
Ig you success defend yourself and kill him, you may be lucky to 2 jeweles and a few pots amd bandages.
Do that sound fair to you?

I am talking about before Age of Shadows. There was no insurance then anywhere.
If it is then unbless the Runebooks also if they haven't already.

I'm all for "realistic" play and for siege to remain "a wretched hive of scum and villainy," but the main concern now would be to provide an incentive to get people from other shards to come to siege WITHOUT making it "namby-pamby," as the stratics board says. In this case, and this case alone, we should consider keeping functional items (those somewhat neutral in combat situations, runebooks, etc.) blessed.

Getting rid of the "siege bless" though... thats an alright idea.

If there weren't population issues, I would say make everything unblessed AND force people to remember to lock their houses before they log off - otherwise they might get broken into and all their precious decor will be POOF! (In a perfect world, everyone would play UO and we could hire people from other time-zones for guard duty :thumbup1:)

But, there simply has to be ample opportunity for upward mobility in order to attract more to siege. Faction blessing would hurt this, because all the rich murderer's on siege would just pwn all the noobs until they go back to prodo -- but unblessing spellbooks and runebooks would hurt this too, because magery is so popular, anyone wanting to play a mage will get pretty frustrated finding a full spellbook every time they die. (might boost the need for scribes though :) )

anyway, I guess I just blabbed too much.... rolleyes:

Before AoS, GM armor was useful for PvP and easy/cheap to make. Sure it was a pain Factions could bless theirs but you could get a GM suit and a weapon for around 1k, a little more if you wanted plate.

Anyway, blessing do not belong on Siege. I would like to see pet bonding go too and would not mind losing Siege bless.

Fight for your trammy shards but leave Siege alone.

Runebooks are not neutral in combat situations as it allow players to jump arround to patrol PvP and PvM spots.

Spellbooks and Runebooks should not be blessed, we did well in the past with lootable runes. If we allow inscribers to copy a full spell or runebook, it would not be worse than losing a weapon. It should cost the count of runes/blank scrolls in the book to copy a book.
