I looked up a +15 magery ring for training today, on *Edited* (<-- Shamless plug cause *edited* has been down for days now!!) and on my way to pick it up I found this poor lonly dread warhorse wandering the streets of Luna all by it's lonesome. Well someone was unsuccessfully trying to tame it, so I gave it a new shiny home with me! What's the most amazing part is there was no NPC's calling the guards down on it.

Sorry all I did not know you could not post websites.

Nice score n the Dread Warhorse.

    As for the web page....

It's not because it is a web site, per se.

It's because the web site either uses an ILLEGAL means to search vendors, or has sales of items for real money sales.

The latter is a Stratics rule, because most games do ban 3rd-party RMT, and it's easier and safer to enforce as a blanket rule than try to make an exemption (especially when the UO item sales sites typically link to sites selling stuff for games where it most definitely against the rules of the affected games, either via ads or sister operations).

The former is simple: The sites that search UO for items use an illegal 3rd party program to do the search. By definition, that makes them considered an illegal exploit, and exploits cannot be linked to or explained how to replicate, on Stratics.

I was wondering something reading this post:

When the Devs first came out with the Dread Warhorses, they said that people would be able to tame them in FUTURE EVENTS. Does the Blowing up Luna event qualify as a "Future Event"? I have yet to participate in the cleansing of Luna [I don't really care if the place blows up or not and it's not a priority to get there to clean up the mess :)] so I don't know if the Riders on Dreads are back or not.

Someone was afk...got killed via invasion spawn...and the horse walked off and went wild.

    I think it's funny.

I am pretty certain that if you get killed your pet is stabled. Leastwise mine always are.

    only if you log out.

Sometimes if you lose conn, your pet stays until you time out.

And, if you're unattended, it will stay until you time out - which about will never happen with the luna traffic, if you're set to see the names to prevent time-out.

If the loss of the horse was the direct result of the invasion. Owner got kill, or lost conn or both, or whatever, wouldn't the horse have been killed by the spawn?

Just seems more likely to have happened after the invasion.

Some of the spawn would be easily soloable by a dread, if it was leftover.

Furthermore, all it would take is for the animal to wander off after the owner died, near the event end (say, the owner had been sitting by the gate in the guard zone, to where most creatures would be guardwhacked, other than the SL.

Of course, it also could have been a case of intra-alliance assassination, that left the Dread to wander free, maybe hoping they'd be the one to find it when it went wild.

The dread lost it's happiness rating while the tamer sat on the horse.. it kicked it off it's back and was wild the very second it did so. The tamer probably had just barely enough skill to control it, (I'd guess 110), and neglected to feed it often even it it wasn't fighting. They were probably the sap trying to re-tame it when the OP stole the tame from them.

That's the ability of someone in your guild or alliance to attack you outside Fel. Usually it's accidental in hunts - and sometimes suicidal (say, accidentally hitting your friend's dragon instead of the target, or hitting the wrong spell macro).

Then you get the griefers that join guilds to try to rob their alliance from within, and cause it to break up over suspicions - which is one of the reasons many of us Trammies think that guild officers should be able to see the online status of members of other guilds, to see the affiliation of the disguised thief (since they will have their guild tag off, and their name in the guild roster will show up as the disguise kit randomly assigned NPC name).

I actually thought of that, but when I cam up the person that was trying to tame was running more then trying to tame. There was a few bodies on the ground and later the first person said that it belonged to the person with the bodies, but the person with the bodies did not say a word to me. Either way there was no way to tell who it belonged to so I just went on my merry way.

Like I said the amazing part was that it did not get guard wacked... Dugh, I'm stupid, it was outside the guard zone where the shadow stuff is spawning.

I know rules are rules, but what purpose does it serve to force a buyer to wander from vendor to vendor looking for a specific item they are looking for, when they can search for it much more easily with an aid of some sort?

Well yeah .... I mean I really loved my Rune Book Back Pack of Rune Books full of Player Vendors and the hours it would take to go check them all out :(

As the world gets larger and the population get .... thinner one might think an improvement in how to market ones wares would be a good thing.

But then I am positive I have seen that thread on UOHall before :)

So you would rather spend a couple of hours searching for that one piece that would make your suit "Just right",than to run the wanted mods thru a 3rd party site and go right to the vendor thats selling it? Yeah good luck with that. I would rather spend my time in game playing and not shopping, thank you.

My game play is not about uber items and artifacts. I built an all 70's suit for my main character. I did it with an excel spreadsheet and walked around luna looking at vendors. Took me less than a day, and I found numerous other items I wanted to buy to. As I said though, my play is not item based. Most of my characters are wearing runic crafted suits I made myself.

You made my point for me.Can someone tell me whats the difference in using a spread sheet and using a 3rd party system? EA/Mythic doesn't have a problem UOAssist so whats the problem with this?

Edit: Getting a 70's suit together is just the beginning for many people. So all you look for is the "basics" in suit building. Many people take it much further, and thats how they play.

I don't know how that proves your point. But to answer your original question as to why those sites are illegal, essentially forcing people to wander from vendor to vendor in search of an item. I'm pretty sure it's an attempt at getting players to interact with one another.

If they want the perfect suit more power to them. But they should spend the time in putting it together. Do we need to make everything instant gratification?

By making them look into the packs of NPC's causes them interact with other players? Umm...sure..okay whatever you say.

No, by having them (after not finding it on vendors) go out among their fellow players and talking to them, asking for help finding and obtaining that item they are looking for.

I love the Luna/Zento vendor search sites. I use them everyday. (Unfortunetly one of them is down right now, hope its back soon.)

The best thing that EA could do for this game and its economy is make their own Website Auction House where ALL vendors can be searched.

Saying they are illegal because they sell UO items for real money? Doesn't EA's own site do that?... LOL guess they are illegal too.

They're illegal because they use illegal scripts to search all the vendors. It's one of those gray areas where if you use the site you're basically letting someone else's cheating benefit you. Anyways, I don't want to get in a big discussion about it. If EA did do their own vendor search site I would be all for it. As it is, this particular site is Luna-centric which only serves to hurt the non-Luna vendors and is detrimental to player interaction. Presumably an EA run auction house type listing would show every vendor on the shard, maybe you could even register your player vendor and include more information or advertisements, upcoming specials etc.

BTW I get lots of customers in my non-Luna shop I chat with, it's very enjoyable (for me anyways). I like the old fashioned idea of shopping, it's what I do when I need to get something. I can understand the desire for convenience though.

So if EA ran their own vendor listing site, would you pay extra for your subscription in order to access it? I'm assuming that would be the motivation they would need in order to get something like that up and running...

It's also running close to the idea what ever takes too long should be justified in using illegal means to get it done. I hate mining and chopping wood...so I don't. Others will use a script to get them. One is following the rules, one is doing whatever the hell they want. It may be a different mindset of two different generations, or it may be pure greed AND laziness.

And really...I dunno about any of you guys but...if I used a third party program even for the most harmless looking thing such as vendor shoppin...whats to stop you from branching out and doing more and more things that are not allowed? You'll always find a way to justify it wouldn't you?

And yes...I never stole money from the bank in Monopoly either...and that's a long boring game to finish too. And that rule isn't even stated in their list of rules...it's just a GIVEN that its not fair to the other players.

And I hope that it stays down, and that every IP that has visited it more than 10 times is banned from every MMO on the planet.

NOTHING irks me more, in games, than people who think "Well, it benefits me, so I don't care if it's done against the rules."

I benefits everyone, all players should use them; just google Luna vendor search and you'll find them. I will never stop singing their praise or stop using them. They are good for the overall game, they are not a negative. That is why EA should make their own that encompasses all vendors, not just Luna/Zento ones. It truly helps the UO economy and provides for true free market principles and discourages the rip-off artists. It's good for the game.

It also helps tremendously when looking for a specific type of item, like today my friend was in need of a taming bracelet with at least 5 taming and 10 LRC. I was able to punch those into the website, and found exactly what I needed without going thru 10,000 vendors one at a time in game. In fact, I would have never even attempted to look for that specific of a Bracelet without the website. It helps the economy, helps players and helps vendors. It's a win-win. There are no negatives; everyone should use them.

Since this seems to have descended into a discussion of illicit search sites, I think I'll call a halt.
