I know alot of people feel that they are being left in the dust of the high end, elite or whatever players.

Do something about it. This isnt the real world.

The disparity in wealth isnt any worse than it was 10 years ago.

Want that Luna house? Go out, hunt, do the EM events, do spawns at 5 AM shard time, do what you have to do.

Sitting here asking somebody to fix the economy isnt going to work, or happen.
We need 200k more players for that to happen, and IMHO that isnt going to happen anytime soon.

Doing EM events is one of the best ways to get, atleast, a little cash.

Yes, there is alot of relic worthy stuff to be looted! Tho in the past year, I have profited somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 mil from event items.

I think one of the best thing to help - institute Binding (no drop), and especially on EM events

I assume you mean the event items, rather than the events themselves?

If so this wouldn't help with wealth disparity, and indeed could hurt it.

The person with billions would still have billions, and you'd have eliminated one means of him or her transferring it to someone with less: By having the one with less get an item to sell to the ones with more.

To the original poster: I agree. Regardless of what one thinks of the RL economy, we are in UO blessed with an economy where the opportunities are indeed more or less real. This is especially true on a shard like GL or how LS was when I was there, with a tradition of giving noob characters gold, equipment, and assistance.

Guess what? I'm quite happy with my paltry ~10 mil. Why? Because EM events are ususaly on at times I cannot make it. I don't want a Luna house - never have. Couldn't care less about the pixel crack from champs - if I want it I'll buy it.

I'm lazy ... also a casual player, not gangbusters like I used to be. If I play a couple hours a day it's a lot - compared to the 8-12 I used to pull.

And there are many more players who could be called "casual" than we realize.

I've run around the map and seen them with my own eyes.

If wealth disparity interfered with their in-game lives, I would worry about it for sure. But as far as I can tell it's not.

If you want to have fun in UO DO NOT become rich. Once you have a ton of gold you can easily buy everything and the game becomes pointless fast.

It's just a game. And this, agreed, sounds like just a rant.

I, myself, am content with whatever gold I have, it's not about who has the most gold, I could care less. Obviously some players have too much time on their hands, no life, and may be getting diabetic, sitting on their butts at a computer for hours at end.

......THEY ARE PIXELS, HELLLOOOOOOOO. Man, you don't even own what you pay real dollars for either. That, in itself, is 100% bonafide lameness.

    Bet your relatives are proud.

When ppl are talking about fixing the economy, they generely do NOT see it from a personal point of view, but at the economy as a whole.

13 years uo have been online, in these 13 years mobs have dropped gold, and they still drop gold. thats just one of the ways where gold gets into the game. 13th years of nearly constantly ever increasing gold put into the game will screw up economy, like it would any virtual or real life economy.

hell they have a full time economist hired at eve online to make sure its stable.
he nearly had a heartattack when the devs wanted to refund some skill books for skills that was going to be phased out. (according to the dev blog)

what im trying to say is an economy is not personal economy. you cannot change the fact some have more and others less, this is part of any economy and got nothing to do with fixing it.

fixing economy = fixing volume of currency, pace its put into the game and thereby fixing the inflation.

Farming Gold for the sake of farming gold is not playing the game - it is being PLAYED BY a skewed concept of what the game is.

Anyone who thinks going and repetitously killing things way below your character's threat level just to get gold is fun, needs to get counseling.

Most of us play for the thrill of the hunt, and the socialization - not to go OCD over gold.

id say more EM events take place during the week than on the weekends

understandable, but i just don't see how someone could only have 10 mil to their name, i can blink and 10 mil appears in my pack... its been easy to make gold since aos in 2003

the only thing i spend gold on is rares, in my opinion if you aren't a rare collector there is no point to play the game, pvp is no where near what it used to be, kind of pointless to me, but rares sell for hundreds of mils and i enjoy collecting them and displaying them

when i started uo back in the day, i farmed earth eles in despise day and night for the sole purpose of earning gold to buy my small house 2 months later for 250k, i actually enjoyed doing that because i felt a sense of accomplishment from it, on another note i cannot remember the last time i actually took the gold off of a monster corpse that i killed its been years is all i know, i always feel bad for people when i see the gold missing on a corpse thinking are people that desperate for gold? now i do EM events to collect rares and make gold, if i get 1 think i keep it, any extras i sell, i don't do EM events for the hell of it to enjoy it or whatever, i am there for the items and cannot stand role playing, if EM events didn't drop items i definitely wouldn't be around

Gold is overrated. I had 820 mil on my accounts. That is not counting the 460 mil I dumped around the banks on catskills a couple years back. It's easy to get and easy to spread around. The issue is how to get rid of it.

I disagree in so many ways.

You'd have to make UO into a job and also be extremely lucky to find someone actually selling their Luna House. Be prepared to pay 500 Million to 1 Billion Gold for that Luna House.

Shockingly, during Age of Shadows I let my guild master "manage" one of my Luna Houses.... and not surprisingly he didn't want to give it back. Was one of the dumber things I've done in game.... you just can't trust people. I did manage to get 12 Million gold from his friend who also thought I got the shaft.

I do agree that if you're doing something "worthwhile" (Not a game) that generally you'll be successful if you "do what it takes."

Why would you need to own a luna house?. The purpose of having a luna house is to make money by collecting fees off rented venders, selling the house at a higher price or just saying you have one. I never own a luna house and I rent from vender homes in luna at 20k a week. As well as i rent venders from any popular area I locate.

Hey disagree with that. If your a PVM the point of PVM is farming for something. The challenge is only when you first fight it. Then you want to kill it quicker then you want to make sure you wreck it, By the 20th time of destroying it well that excitementl is diminished/gone. Unless someone actually gets the same excitement of killing the same creature for no value 13 years down the line. My fun is to see what pops up in the corpse to surprise to impriove my suit or be able to sell it if i don't want it. Well it was my fun and kept me busy since aos. Was really boring before that for me and of course bored of it after imbuing.

I agree. IDOCS/events/Spawns There are plenty of ways to make alot of gold. You may need a suit to start out. But train your char/get suit/ do the later.

IDOCS are the best quick way to make gold imo.

I own one, I don't collect fees of vendors etc. I use it to provide a place for my guild and alliance mates to stick vendors so they can make money without having to pay the sometimes extortionist fees, some other houses charge, themselves. 20k a week isn't awful, but I've seen some vendors wanting close to a Mil a week for prime spots.

Could I sell the house and make a fortune? Sure, could I charge fees and open spots to anyone, and still have people scrambling to place, sure. But I don't, I use my house as a means to help members in the community I play with, I'm not out to get rich I make gold, I spend gold that's enough for me, right now I've about hmm 20-30 mil across two accounts, that will jump about double in the next week but... Much of that will go towards scrolls and items etc. from other players and I'll be right back to 10-20 fast.

One thing I've realized, having gold is good, having too much gold removes much of the sense of accomplishment in acquiring items myself. It also diminishes my sense of accomplishment in earning enough gold to buy that big ticket item I want.

Truth is other than what would be considered Rares, or limited time items, there is nothing in the game I personally feel I "need" to advance my characters, that I haven't been able to acquire myself, but then again, I have pretty much every skill in the game useful for obtaining stuff maxed out, it's a benefit of having multiple accounts I can be completely self-sustaining if I want.

Now I have something to say on this subject outside discussing my own position.

One thing many of us have that anyone that's returning from a long period away from the game, or is new to the game is Knowledge. Sure we might be in a position to be able to make millions in a short period, they are not simply because UO has a steep learning curve. Our $13 a month entitles us to nothing their $13 dollars a month does, so how can any of us justify our ability to gain gold and ease we do it considering our knowledge to be OK while those without that knowledge are justifiably "poor" in our little games economic world?

How about instead of telling them to "Do something about it", instead we do something about it. I now on Chessy I actively look for returning players, and those [young] folks that occasionally pop up. I've been in their shoes, I left UO right before AoS and came back during SE. I know exactly how much the game has changed for someone coming back after 8 or 9 years. I know exactly how difficult the learning curve is for someone who's new to UO.

What I'm pointing out here is instead of stoking your sense of entitlement, you make it a point to share that wealth of knowledge with newer players, I do it, it makes me feel good to know I'm helping not only another person but UO as these people are more likely to stay thanks to a sense of good community than leave because they felt looked down on.

Good Example, there's a guy I've been helping out a bit on Chessy, back after 10 years, me and my friends gave him an imbued 70's 100 LRC suit, suit cost almost nothing, handed him 50k for insurance, he freaked thinking it was a huge sum of gold we were just handing him. We took the time to explain ways he can make some gold while training up a character, I personally took him and showed him the quests for Bags of Sending and Powder of Translocation so he could work skill, while acquiring items to start a nest egg with. We've as a group (guildmates) took him to Doom, and let him join us in the Guantlet, started showing him some of the new things put into UO since he left. He's already expressed his desire to stay, and states his primary reason is he stumbled on a good community of helpful people.

I had him poke around luna get an idea of values of things, I've been answering questions every single day on things to help him get up to speed, and I do this asking absolutely nothing in return.

So yea how about instead of condemning the have nots for being have nots especially those who are either that way by justifiable circumstance, we instead pass on a little bit of that most powerful commodity most of us have and that is knowledge. As I said your $13 a month, irregardless of how long you've been paying it entitles you to nothing more than what Joe Newbie gets for his $13 a month.
