are there any other benefits other than the extra steps you can take before a recheck? does it make it more difficult for someone to detect you? or are there any other benefits?

If your suit is not leather / mage armour you will need higher. I found with studded / cloth helm I had to run 110.

It does make it harder to be detected/tracked. Also, you can take far more damage before being revealed. 120 stealth rocks if you can fit it. :)

A true thief doesn't wear anything that isn't cosmetic. This excludes hybrids of course. But on Siege a thief runs around in a robe or vendor bought clothes. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.
