Should I use normal smith tools to create armour/weapons to imbue then unravel or should I use runic hammers?

DC hammers and Spined kits are relatively cheap, and you can use the base materials (iron, leather) to make stuff to unravel.

Normal tools require using colored metal to make items to unravel, then you have to tell the bag to unravel everything, including artifacts, to get ingredients - you can't directly target enhanced/already-colored items with the skill to unravel, or use the normal unravel option of the bag.
