simple poll. just to get an idea of what the forum posters play.
1. The CC has a way too outdated codebase. The devs don't want to touch a lot, because it is (to stay in game terms) pretty IDOC. They stated several times.
2. If they would not have to waste time and resources on the CC, the EC would be in a better state right now.
3. Because they're afraid of loosing customers, they're not scrapping one or the other. They also stated that may times.
That said, it doesn't impact me the slightest, which client some other players uses. Nor am I interested in it.
Besides, I boycott publicly visible votes. That's why I won't vote here. (But if you want to know, which client I use, you just have to pay attention to some of my posts, this one icluded )
BTW, concerning "the majority of the time", the time for client switching is over, at least for me.
EC BLOWS! CC for life!
Windows 7 or windows 95?
It's a no brainer.
If it weren't for having to trade with some people or having to do some deco things in the CC I'd never use it. It's been so long since I have used it seriously that I can no longer help people with problems in it. Just can't... I wish they would get rid of the CC since we all know that 95% of all cheat programs are based off of it... If they did it would put an end to most of the "sell" sites since they wouldn't be able to use the illegal program I won't mention to gather data for their search engines etc..... however that said then it would only be a matter of time before someone broke the code to the EC and the garbage was back up and running....
the other combat for the sites is to put out a small patch every other day. Just saying. Anyway no matter how you look at it or how many of these silly polls there are you can't get a good idea of the true number using either client because 90% of the player base does NOT use these forums.
cc cuz I'm old and set in my ways
(The ec is nice for somethings I might if I get a new pc Ill give it another shot maybe by then more things will be fixed)
After trying Pinco's UI I will never go back.
+1, and now just waiting for Petra to lock this thread like the last 700 that broached this topic.
Whew, almost didn't read all of it, so getting rid of CC wouldn't stop anything, it would just prolong the problems.... Or would it?
Hrmm, I've thought of this, but I'm sure it would be more of a hassle than anything, just because if it weren't a mandatory patch, people would just do what they do now... don't patch until you have to, to log in.
It's interesting how many of us (everyone) knows so much about this isn't it? just sayin'...
Classic Client only for me.
If the EC had the option to make it look like the classic client, I'd run it exclusively. The EC has a lot of very nice options. However, I hate the way it looks. My character looks wrong and my dragon looks awful. The characters and creatures move oddly. The textures blend together, and between that and the extra lag I often have a hard time telling what's going on.
I tried to play enhanced and I think I gave it a fair shake, but I ended up back in classic. I use the EC for certain tasks, like posting long messages on message boards or finding lost/hidden/hard to see items in containers, and sometimes for fishing, but that's about it.
The EC runs poorly on my computer but for the increased functionality I would upgrade my computer for it... if I didn't so dislike the way it looks.
More like Windows XP v. Windows Vista, or Windows 98 v. Windows ME.
EC, and unless there is some significant movement made on the EC, it will be NEITHER client... but SotA instead.
While I use the EC exclusively, I don't like the EC for the exact opposite reasons you suggest "if it looked like the CC client". It does look like the CC client (which is what I don't like about.). The classic client looks atrocious which correlates directly into the EC looking atrocious.
The EC client is virtually a mirror image of the CC client minus the User Interface.
"I have tried the EC and don't like it looks"
It's 2014 get some high resolution graphics into UO to keep it going for another 10-15 years for the love of God.
:-( (what happened to the beating a dead horse emotin)
These polls on this issue usually end somewhere with CC ending in 60's and EC ending in the 30's somewhere.
I need to download the SotA beta (or alpha? whatever it is)...is it up and stable yet?
ah looks like I missed the first window
lol...reminds me of all the "basement" threads...wow. SotA is like how about 5?
Classic Client For Life!!
Especially if your a tamer
Tamer, Fisherman, or T-Hunter. Crafter, Decorator..... Imbuer.... Hunter......
Oh yeah those too
I'm a 15 yr CC user that doesn't run the EC because I hate the graphics... But the more I hear about what is available in the EC that you would have to "cheat" to have in the CC, the closer I get to holding my nose and running the EC. I just finished my 2nd tamer, and would love for you to tell me more about your new book: "Taming and the Enhanced Client"...
And no, I'm not being silly - I would love to know...
Dancing broccoli is nothing more than a green banana with an afro.
There is only one client worth using and it's been there from the start.
I have played Classic for 16 years.
Some time ago I tried EC but I cried when I saw my brave old smith in the paperdoll.
It was like looking at a Young girl with beard...
No way !
I'm at work atm and unfortunately use my cell phone for reading these forums, so typing is a huge pain in the arse.
The absolute number one reason I use the enhanced version (Pinco's UI)
Is for automatic pet ratings when using animal lore, I highlight a beast/potential tame and in one press of a button have the entire stat sheet on "1" page along with max stats to see how it stacks up against a perfect version of that tame along with its pet rating! No more using uocraft.com and inputting all those stats like the old days uggggh I don't miss those days.
And as far as all the other differences, it's leaps and bounds better than cc.
I can't list everything because I haven't used cc in over two years and forget all antiquated crap I used to go through.
Let's face it most people who play are of an older generation and many are stuck in our ways.
I hated EC at first, my eyes actually experienced pain during the first 3 days and I kept telling myself this sucks I'm going back to cc, but as you start to understand how it's set up and all the things that used to take forever in cc takes like a second in EC you'll start to realize you've been living in the past.
Try EC for a week using pincos and you'll know what I'm talking about.
Ps. Thanks Pinco for all your hard work.
Keep it to simple voting with no one attacking other posters for their choice and I won't need to lock it.
Not quite sure which way to vote tbh. There are two players in our house, myself and my hubby. I play EC and he plays CC. (and neither of us try to bully the other into changing!)
Seeeeee she plays EC nuff said hehe
Next testing window is Pre-Alpha Release 2 which will be January 24 - 26 and will mainly be testing crafting and some expanded features that were in R1.
Does anyone play the standard EC without Pinco UI, or any other UI for that matter? Just the stock client.
I play EC with out pinco's.
Fortunately I have a cure for that.... run to Luna find the body sculptor and choose the "Old" body...... and viola! You are old... there are many other really cool looking bodies in there. And the great thing is everyone in the EC will see you that way and anyone in the CC will still see you just the same as you ever were.
Sadly Pinco's is it.... at least for publicly available UI's in English... Not really sure if there are some Korean or Japanese UI"s because I don't know those languages.... but not knowing 1 iota of computer program jargon since when I took computer programming back in '83..... we had green screens with dot matrix printers..... I'm a wee bit behind the times and besides I really don't think I remember any of that junk anyway.... I'm not very computer savvy or I would try to do what Pinco does.... but since Pinco is awesome at what he/she does I continue to give him/her my full support...
As for that if you want to really know how the EC works with Pinco's I've always been willing to give folk a walk thru... though I will say Pinco has some awesome help guides on his/her website.
I play EC with Pincos and I LOVE it!
My list of features that makes EC better is:
- Resizeable playarea (I have 27" iMac... Its nice to put the screen to use)
- Zooming - Yes it looks terrible if the zoom dosnt hit the "sweetspot" but it sure is handy to be able to zoom out and see an entire Castle onscreen or zoom all the way in and see that one pixel.
- Grid and list view packs - with search! Yes! Finally I can get rid of that messy backpack with layers upon layers of stuff hiding that one item I seek!
- Hotbar and Macros - The macro system along with the hotbar and hotkey system is amazing! I love it!
- Map - with party players visible, pin points, zoom, etc etc. Works great!
- Pincos Mod - With this mod the great gets even better! Try it if you havnt!
- Probally forgot something.... nevermind the above should be enough to look beside a few pixels or a paperdoll that looks different... in a few weeks you get use to it and will love all the other features!
I play classic with uo assist, and i love it. I would NEVER change...i rather stop playing.
I switched from cc to EC a few years ago when they changed the treasure maps and find EC much faster for everything I do, from t maps to bods to easily accessible inventory to seeing the whole field of battle when fighting

When I play I only play CC. The functionality of the EC client is empirically better, but its terrible visual mishmash of old art and frankly meh (to down right poor) new art is far too aesthetically displeasing for me to even consider it. It's a completely uncomfortable experience.
But I also feel that way about all of the art made post like AOS in the CC. CC art from then and CC art from now clearly were not made by the same art team, and were clearly not even made at the same resolution or with the same pallet. They clearly made little effort to make it "fit". Something which always annoyed the bejeezes out of me.
I cant imagaine there would be any other way of playng UO....classic retro gaming ....
NonPinco EC voter with active accounts. Never is considered some flag wavers don't pay their monthly dues that comment here.
Just a thought, after reading the same vein of posts since forever: When you activate one of the Halloween costumes, the client shows your toon with a different configuration. If you could change your appearance locally instead of globally it would open up opportunities to overcome some of the complaints people have with the EC. What if they allowed us to maintain a local configuration file with alternate slots for each mobile? For example, you could choose what dragons looked like by selecting from a menu. The mechanics would work just like the existing UI manipulation possible in the EC. I don't know where the graphics for other things are stored such as the landscape tiles, but I bet they are all on the client too. If we could manipulate these files in an organized manner, many of the critics of the EC would have a way to change their view to one they could live with. Other players would see the "standard" mobile structure, but locally you would be looking at perhaps wildly modified creatures and characters. Designers would be falling all over themselves rushing to submit their contributions to the list of available toons.
thank you ill put that on my calendar because i know ill forget
When I'm duping and running all my nasty scripts etc. I am forced to used the classic client.
For normal game play I run the EC + Pinco
Regardless of how much you like/dislike CC/EC I'm sure everybody can agree that Mythic has ended up in a grim situation. Rather small MMO with smaller still Dev team stuck with maintaining TWO seperate clients. It is very unfortunate.
It is somewhat incredible various dev teams under EA have tried to replace CC three times. It is somewhat incredible three seperate dev teams have failed to do so three times.
I personally voted for CC.
It looks and feels better. It looks and feels as UO should. Beautiful, timeles graphics. Most character models in EC are terrible. So terrible I get very strong " this isn't my UO" vibe every time I see it in action. Player character, many NPCs allike look cheap. They look like they were lifted from some 12 year old Shareware game. Classic Client on the other hand looks classy and timeless in same fashion early 90's nintendo games, 20th centry Disney cartoons do. CC looks like a game that was extremely beautiful in 90's. EC looks like shareware that was born ugly in 00s. Former always feels better.
I have tried to force myself into liking EC some 3-4 times over the years. Can't be done.
According to Captain Hindsight, EA should have created 1:1 copy of CC from scratch around early/mid 00s. After having done so in some modern, intact well documented code language somebody not anointed to knighthood by Lord British can understand, it would hacve been time to start bringing improvements and updates to graphics, UI alike.
UI of CC gets plenty of well deserved flak.
Even this aspect comes with hillarious twist of it's own though. If you take A) well arranged CC UI B)Fully modded EC with Pino's UI and C) Highly polished, highly modded UI of a modern AAA MMO you'll see A and C having bit more in common than B and C. Static, bulky action bars vs freedom to have each ability button where ever you please without having to chain them in horizontal or vertical rows. This is mostly just a small amusing detail. Still. it is plain INCREDIBLE more or less first functional MMO out there stumbled upon an approach to ability buttons that gets overlooked by most all modern developers: typical new MMO spawns with typical lifted-from-vanilla-wow action bars not unlike those EC is sporting. Over time, modders of this modern AAA MMO then tune and tweak the UI into something less flawed. In WoW, for example, evolution of player made UI addond has undeniably taken UI of a hardcore raider CLOSER to CC than EC. This is purely surface glitter. But undeniably it is curious and impessive.
Due to it's name alone, the very few people who have never tried UO before will download EC, not CC. It makes a huge mistake. Even the vocal minority that prefers EC will freely admit it takes like few hours to set up and few weeks of " getting used to"
CC on the other hand, despite having it's undeniable flaws and complexity of it's own, does not throw noob in deep end of the pool in same way. Figuring UI and mechanics out as you go along is much more natural in CC. It doesn't show stuff noob has no clue of down his throat. It would serve the game well if they renamed EC into " Advanced Client". It is closer to truth and gives noob a nudge to right direction.
A) and C) have in fact that much in common, that modern games are now again on their way tp putting a lot of black screen and a post stamp sized game window into their UIs (*sarcasm*)
Vocal minority that supports EC? CC easier for beginners? I still have no idea how to set the default rune in a runebook in CC. Sorry i dont want to be rude, but i dont think it can get less objective than what you state. Why not just say you hate the EC for life?
I try to not engage in CC discussions because i tried it a couple of times but never got enough into it. Thus i refrain to telling me "you really cant judge it atm". I wish some CC people would approach the EC the same way. Telling tales from your 5 hour experience back when it was first released is not going to make any of you look serious
I just play EC w/o pinco's but some of my own UI enhancements and i love it
Only thing that i really hate is that they put no legacy text books in EC
You know what I seriously can't understand.... EA creates the Sims..... the Sims has awesome beautiful graphics that are incredibly customizable..... Yet the same company that makes them makes UO.... and sad to say the same thing that runs the Sims is part of the EC..... so ..... what's holding the EC back?
EA is a publisher. Not a studio, which does the development.
And Sims 3 is developed from another developer than UO is.
Each developer gets their own budget from the publisher. UO is 16 years old. Player base numbers have seen better days. You can reckon on your own, of how big the buget for UO is. Less budget, less developers.
Retro gaming the classic way...will always win the day
