Yes or No...
Opps you put a vote up.
Yes, as I see myself buying some things of them which are decent.
But nothing new which is not out more than 1 year to make sure it is playable and reasonable bugfree
Would not trust them with an mmo though
We just got Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2010. I like, as racing has always been my love. It has an online option, which I choose not to use due to cheaters.
I don't see Ultima Online being relevent to other products they sell. UO is old, it will get as much attention as they can reasonably give it, and not much more. Also note, and don't forget, the economy is still in a toilet hole. Placing people on payroll for the sole reason of UO is not financially sound. I wouldn't do it.
Another aspect of the alleged mishandling is the player base. Face it, when you have players creating polls to get their way, generating many, many posts, and forever calling out to the devs......they heed to the loudest voice.
You can agree, you can disagree, I could care less, but I have been around and have seen alot change. UO has become an unchangeable monstrosity, and reverting it back.....it won't happen. Deal with what you have or quit.
In the meantime, I'll be burning up the roads in my 2010 Camaro.
If the lousy customer support I've received in game and out continues, I shall never purchase another EA product. Of course, my attitude may change if I see some serious improvements. However, as long as UO is relagated to the "other" category according to the EA customer support phone line, I am significantly doubtful.
Hmmm let me think... NO....
EA has BioWare's games, so hell yes, I need my Mass Effect.
Ya, it was pretty easy to say, "Hell no!" until EA got Bioware. I haven't tried Dragon Age yet, but that's one I'm probably going to buy at some point. Having said that, EA really does suck, and I'll be surprised if Bioware maintains the same level of quality production now that they have been purchased by EA.
I'll never buy another MMO that has EA on the box, ever. Including TOR.
They really have not handled UO too awfuly bad. I do not like the new client however. Guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
There are games out there that cost more than UO and are handled much MUCH worse. If they release a game i want i'll buy it. Iam still playing/paying for UO .. so cant blame EA ..
If not for the new star wars mmo I'd vote 'no'.
They ruined my game (UO before AOS) and that i will never forgive them.
Best MMO game ever and they had to make changes for the sake of making changes. They sold out there old supporters and for that they should be ashamed.
So no i will never give them a cent before a real classic shard arrives.
Selling out their old supporters by making a completely different game with AOS is handling the game incredibly bad.
If you prefer today UO then i guess it could be as you say but for the ones that only accepted the classic version of UO feels betrayed by EA. That game is not arround anymore. There game is gone.
One of the first EA games i played Was M.U.L.E. that game kicked ass how can you not love the old 8 bit Music
I could care less. Just be happy they are still puttin time and money into this game. Yes I will buy more EA. Ever see the shelves? Your pretty limited if ya take the no EA stance...half who say they will or did are obviously lying if they are any kind of gamer at all.
I'm cautious about EA in general, but its got nothing to do with UO. As for their handling of UO, its not been "great", but it has kept the game running 13+ years.
I do have Dead Space 2 on pre-order, and I will get Dragon Age 2 as well.
I might buy something, but I will never buy into another MMO that they produce, unless their support of UO greatly improves.
Ugh, yeah. Why not? Just because they don't care about UO doesn't mean good games they may make won't be fun. Need for Speed is fun, EA makes it, good game. I'm not going to boycot EA just because of UO. If I see a good game I'm going to buy it.
I voted no. I have various reasons which I wont get into atm. My War accounts go dead on the 23rd of Dec. I love war but I see many games that are F2P that get more attention then UO or War ever gets. If I need something I can buy it. If not I can earn it but takes a little longer. UO or War went to F2P I would stay.
No, and not just from UO, every EA game I've gotten in the past 5-10 years has been a buggy mess, most of them never fixed. I would skip town from UO in a heartbeat if ANYTHING offered a world like it, but I've tried everything, and as horrific as UO is these days It's still better than the alternatives.
I only have the original Dragon Age, but I loved it . If you ever do get it and get stuck and need help let me know! ;P. Your first ally in the game is actually an animal ... most will replace him later on in the game, since the animal cannot use skills as humans can, but a very cool pet that I wouldn't mind in UO!
On that note, I would def buy anything by Bioware. I really wanted to get Spore, it looked awesome, but EA's anti-piracy act on that game pushed me away (was something like 3 installs then the disc is a coaster, won't work). But as long as Will Wright is making games for EA, I'll be interested in Maxis titles as well. Then there's EA Sports; Madden is going downhill, and NBA Live is all but dead. However, 2K Sports is full of freezes and glitches as well. That's a hazy area. Hopefully a third party will emerge for sports.
If UO is an example of what they offer, I would respond with a Hell, Yes!
UO provides me with all the gaming pleasure I need so I won't be buying any other games, but i will be purchasing future updates and "boosters". I love the hIgh Seas - warts and all
As much as I love UO, I know it wasn't exactly created by EA. And I haven't played any other EA game I have loved, So because of that, I'm out and it's a no.
Granted, it is text based, but I play http://www.solecismic.com/index.php Front Office Football to feed my football addiction. Multiplayer online leagues are awesome.
EA the company has continually missed the boat regarding UO.
Historically, the UO team itself has often been its worst enemy. We've seen numerous teams with no vision on board, team members with obvious lack in talent, and long periods of nothing in game... moreso than any other online I've played. And the communication swings back and forth more than a biploar's mood.
I'd say UO's current issue at hand is a severe lack of crew. In other words, everyone here realizes that the team is running bare bones. The personal touches (ie EM events, Mesanna) tend to obscure this somewhat, but it is there.
I'd also say that the team is pulled in many directions. DarkScribe was completely off base being okay with the direction KR took (the 2.5d was a poor decision). The art and visual concept team is poor, and does nothing to bring in a visually stimulating look to UO. We have things that have been unfinished for upwards of a decade (Virtues, anyone?). KR should have been totally recoded, much like the game Dofus was when they upgraded it... that way it would resolve the spaghetti code that gets the team in so much trouble. But no.
The UO team usually works on things that are the fastest and easiest to resolve... which stinks, as the things that need tended to are pushed back farther and farther.
Another issue of the UO team. They get free passes for releasing a buggy, inferior product.
As others have stated in various threads, this isn't a freeshard. This isn't a mom and pop fly by night company. This is supposedly the same gaming company that releases SPORE, THE SIMS and now Bioware games.
There is no excuse from them to release any products that would pale to much smaller games in terms of content or lack of bugs on release.
It is NOT okay to rush out things like they do. And its up to Cal to insist to his superiors that they do not. I mean, UO has a horrible reputation in the gaming community for this kind of thing. Is that something to be proud of?
NO, NO, and Still NO. They remind me of Zinga in many ways. Plus there's the mentality of if you don't like how we do things, feel free to leave. That's unprofessional in Many ways, and tells me that that person doesn't have the mental growth, and is unfit to hold their position, or to give responses in any capacity.Zero people skills.
If I didn't want Support, I'd could play a most any other game. I AM looking tho, after 10yrs now, at other games, like LOTR & Runescape. I don't pvp - p. vs fantasy monsters only, nor do I like WoW-style graphics, so it helps limit the field. I don't mind paying a monthly fee, but not for what I get here at UO. UO used to be set apart from other games, but those OLD Devs are gone & so is their management direction. Maybe it's time for This OLD person to move on too - it's just not worth all the frustration.
The One thing I learned from being in SCA that was drilled into me by the marshals, "When it quits being fun, it's time to quit".
The best sports simulation game I've ever played was a table top board game, Pursue the Pennant. It was a ton of fun and utterly rocked if you have any love for baseball whatsoever. For multiplayer games the most fun I had was again with a baseball simulation league, Scoresheet. Last I checked they are still in business, but baseball isn't as much fun to me as it used to be. The rabbit ball and steroids kinda ruined it for me.
You should try Runes of Magic. It's absolutely gorgeous looking, not as cartoony as WoW. It's F2P but very professionally run. You don't have to invest money into the game if you don't want to, as most 'good stuff' can be purchased from players at in game auctions. There is a ton of stuff to do and they provide regular, hefty content updates.
Wow such negativity towards ea keep in mind people UO was an aquisition they did not make it they picked it up down the line its 13 years old for crying out loud. And yet you all feel because you play an anciant game that your entitled to thier best efforts f that noise. Ea is keeping it going be happy they give it any support at all! Yes i have and will continue to buy ea games EA ROCKS!!! you negative cry babies need to suck it up and either move on or stfu.
It's this kind of attitude that has made UO the ghost town that it currently is. 'Move on' should never be the option a company looks at for its playerbase. It should always be 'what can we do in order to make what we do better?'.
Again: no one should accept substandard quality if they are a consumer. And if they are a consumer, they should have the ability to criticize and elaborate on what efforts would make said product better.
It is the responsibility of every company to ensure a quality product is made in order to appease its consumer base, whether its dishtowels or an online video game.
biowares new mmo coming out soon star wars: the old republic is supposed to be an insanely good game i might try the beta, and i have a few madden football games
You sure your not the same dev that is under cover and made the comment " Dont like it dont play it." This kind of attitude is not a good business model. If I would run my businness ventures the EA way, I be out of business by now.
Does not matter if UO was made by EA or not. Does not matter if EA had picked up UO or not. The issue is EA is large game maker and it's about image. EA basically saved their image with a bugged outdated online game and handed it to Mythic Bioware. Makes it easier to blame Mythic Bioware for any failures by an EA viewpoint. Both companies have a "RESPONSABILITY" to have a "QUALITY" product. If they want players to continue to pay for sub par products they wont be in business long. DaoC made Mythic Bioware. DaoC was epic game. Mythic Bioware are retracing the same failure footsteps for UO now, that lead to what is left of DaoC today.
How strange that EA has more complaints but has a A rating. I found this below and may explain why.
and also this which I find quite interesting....
So EA to me has a high rating because they pay for it. Companies that dont get low ratings go figure lol.
Yes i would again and again, best damn games out there are ea related either direclty or as a parent company.perhaps some of this bull headedness is the reason ea does not put there logo on every acquisistion they make. Sounds like they know more about the biz then you guys are giving credit for. also i want to add as a parent company they share in design costs and any profits. I see lots of time going into development, so why cant that be good enough to show there intent to you they are commited to the genre we love called electronic gaming. Since most want to talk uo lets go. Tests are done of each expansion/update in house and then goes to test shard. yes there is bugs and as they get reported they get fixed, sometimes the problem there is people fail to report bugs. for what ever reason. then when released to the production shards a few minor issues arise. not intended, and then in good faith the devs step in and fix said bugs that need addressing. this process seems long but,its not like they just drop a bomb on you and say thats it live with it. Every bug is addressed. which is called follow up. that shows to me they care. and uo is a work in progress it will always have new stuff and possible bugs.which i know will get fixed as they appear. Due to past record no one can dispute that. this is a work in progress thats the magic and it keeps it from stagnating. thks ea for the pirate booster and all you do. kudos to the devs and the parent company ea. i will buy again and again thks and to all you no's we will miss you since next months dues have to paid to ea and you clearly say your not paying, you will be missed. goodbye.
