Coruscant, a planet buzzing with overpopulated life, decorated in a glitter of lights seen from orbit. Its crust is made up of a mixture of silicon and oxygen (silicate rock) with a molten core containing very little natural resources. The name of the planet is taken from Corusca Stones which some inhabitants and spacers believe that the planet looks like, with its bright twinkling lights from space. Previously it was known as Notron, in which the history of the planets terrain is sketchy with little known about its past state only that it used to harbour oceans.

On the surface the skyscrapers of Coruscants cities fledge and fleet escaping up into the skies. Although the population is estimated to be three times the official amount, it is teeming with all types of alien species of life from the galaxy. Most people abide by the rules living in these metropolises of trade, wealth and prosperity. Due to its position in space, at hyperspace co-ordinates 0, 0 several trade routes run straight to Coruscant. These trade routes have led to much of its success giving its wealth, power and growth. Approximately 53 years after the Republic was founded, the perlemian trade route was introduced which connected Osuss to which the Jedi first came to Coruscant and the Republic. Shining as a centre of Galactic Republic civilisation, it is home to the most prominent political powers acting as the Galactic senate to the planets allied in its grand union, the Galactic Republic.

Near the end of the Great Galactic War in 3,653 BBY, between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic, Coruscant was sacked. The Sith ended their assault on the Minos Cluster trying to persuade the Republic that they were committed to peace. This plan played directly into their hands as Jedi and Republic forces departed Coruscant to attend peace talks on Alderaan. Unfortunately the Sith Empire had other ideas, as its defences were left open.

In the distraction, while the peace talks took place on Alderaan, Starfighters and starships of the Sith Empire were redirected and arrived at Coruscants atmosphere. They began a brutal onslaught and bombardment of the planet. The Sith came prepared with agents, soldiers and bounty hunters who infiltrated the Jedi temple and caught the remaining Jedi off guard, destroying the Jedi Temple completely, reducing it to ruins.

In the end Coruscants defence was incapacitated and the Galactic Republic had no choice but to give up arms and accept the surrender on the terms of the Sith Empire. Coruscant was left in a state of chaos as the Sith consolidated their power, making the Galactic Republic sign the Treaty of Coruscant on the planet of Alderaan. The Republic reluctantly signed the treaty for a ceasefire and thus the Great Galactic War ended and the Cold War began.
