Empty Bottles not resetting pricing?

I've been logging in to my shard Pacific every day, just waiting for the prices to come down from like 35-50gp ea so my alchemist can go at it. But everytime I've logged in for the last 3 weeks, the prices have not budged 1 gp, only seem to be going up after someone buys everything. Was this a intended thing or is this a bug?

Bug or not, I think it's a facinating accidental experiment in how high a commodity can go before gathering or crafting bottles becomes worthwhile :)

Prices go down if people stop buying them from the NPC. If people keep buying them, the price will go up everytime it fully sells out of its stock.

Prices raise for each 1000 bought for 1 gp. Prices drop for each 1000 sold back to the npc for 1 gp. A very long time the buy back price of the npc was half of the actual price. That got changed not too long ago. Nowadays the buy back price is at maximum half of the initial sell price of an item. EA felt that too many were earning too easy and too much money simply by balancing prices between different npcs. So nowadays nearly no one sells such items back to the npcs.
Vendor prices reset on new patches. Besides that there are wandering merchands in Illshenar. Those reset every time when they respawn at an other location. But I dont know, if those offer bottles. (But at least at one of the spawn locations a bank box acces is included. So bulk buying there is possible.) Besides that you might have a try at rarely used vendor locations: Wind Tram/Fel, Papua Tram/Fel, Delucia/Fel, static gypsy camps in Ill, the gargoyle city in Ill. I really doubt, that all of them having prices for bottles rased to 35+gp.
If your really desperate for empty bottles you could buy filled potions from the alchemists and gulp them all.

You pay 35gp each for a bottle?!?!

You need to get yourself a faction bottle vendor where they sell for 8gp, buy 500 then the price goes up to 9gp each and each time you buy 500 the price goes up by only 1gp each then when they get too expensive wait till the server reset then start again and if there is 10 vendors you can easily have enough bottles to last a life time!

    35GP A BOTTLE?!?!

The wandering Ilsh gypsies don't sell bottles (although they do all have a banker, so each allows bank access).

By far the easiest way to collect empty bottles, when prices are so high, is to kill the ettins in Despise and drink the potions.

I think the price not going down is because people aren't selling, not because of a bug. It might be a bug that they're not resetting at server down/up. Honestly, I miss the old system. I enjoyed searching for the really low vendors to buy from and then trying to find the high ones to sell back to. I understand why they made the change, but it's another case of to fix the scripters, they had to hurt the honest players.

Actually no I have never paid that much, but while shopping I've noticed those prices which I refuse to pay that much. The simple fact of the matter is with other items such as reagents, they reset after no one buys them for so long, and other items such as bolts n arrows, they reset. But for some reason, the bottles don't. I'll look in to the faction bottle guys, I haven't done that in a while.

I just had a quick look in Fel Vesper, and the bottles at The Magicians Friend are selling for 5 per. Two vendors, so 1000 bottles in total. Might be worth going there if you need some.

Pac isn't my home shard so haven't checked out any other locations, I just happened to have an old char logged out in Fel Vesper bank.

They stopped the prices from falling last January or February to stop and exploit (I don't know what it was). They are supposed to put in a fix for this, but 10 months later there still is no fix.

This holds true for all commodity items (ingots, cloth, leather, etc.) sold by NPC vendors. The price goes up, but doesn't go down. That's why ingots sell for over 30gp on almost all NPC Smiths.
