Seeing the upcoming changes to the runic crafting system made me think about the crafting options for spellbooks. I would love to see the Devs give some consideration to updating the crafting and mods available on spellbooks. A held spellbook is the primary “weapon” for a PvM mage if he wants any sort of bonus to his attack. When you compare the list of available spellbook mods to those of any weapon skill, the list is pretty skimpy… not to mention the difference in degrees of difficulty to obtain. Let’s face it, with imbuing you can get pretty much the precise mods you want for the cost of a few easily obtainable ingredients. What I would like to see a way to imbue or enhance (via inscription skill) that lets players add mods to our crafted books. Let them be subject to the same property/weight requirements as imbuing and expand the list of available mods. The mods I would really like to see available would be: Slayer and Super Slayer Defense Chance Increase Hit Chance Increase (not currently available) Life/Mana/Stamina Leech (not currently available) Spell Damage Increase Mana/Stamina/Hit Point Regeneration (Hit Point/Stamina not currently available) Faster Casting/Faster Cast Recovery Lower Regent/Mana Cost Plus Skill (Magery/Necro/Mysitc/Meditation/Focus/Eval/Resist/Wrestling) I believe this would increase the overall usefulness of mages in PVM, or at very least make obtaining a spellbook with mods that compliment the suit more in line with that of melee weapons. With the current caps on spell damage in PvP, coupled with the fact that most PvP mages are running around with some sort of mage weapon in their hand, I believe the impact on PvP would be minimal. I would love to know what other players think of this idea. Do you see any balance issues? How many total mods should you be able to have on a spellbook, keeping in mind that a Scrappers can have up to 7 mods and far exceed the 500 point imbuing weight. Should spellbooks have durability once they have been imbued/enhanced? What other mods might be useful on the spellbooks?
