Thought it was just me or my cable . I am sick of it too. Why is this happening so much?
It happens to me everyday 2-3 times to get in usually it ends with me restarting client

Since I am not having this problem I don't think it's game wide. The team would probably have a better chance of determining what is wrong for those few people who are suffering this phenomenon if they were given a few actual details. Being rude and unhelpful doesn't really get anyone anywhere.

I think it's game wide.
The message "Unable to Connect" I'm seeing several times a day at the login screen.
It often takes me 3-5 attempts to log in after logging out to switch characters.
I've never experienced this amount of latency in all my years of UO.
I am not seeing it. I'm having no problems logging in. More information is needed.
Yep, this has been going on for me for about a month. It fails to log in to the server like 9/10 times. I even posted a topic about it, and none of the suggestions worked.
Though I am not having connection problems,I have been having issues with lag.Sometimes it looks like I am trying to walk around Luna on dial up.
It started happening after they did the server "upgrade" along with vet rewards gump delay, and casting recall and not going anywhere. In fact the first time I tried to log in after seeing this thread it hung at connecting yet again and the client went (not responding). Sometimes it recovers after a long wait, sometimes it just gets borked and stays borked.
When I first heard about cloud computing years ago the first thing that popped into my head was "That's a horrible BLEEPING idea". That was for other reasons though. Now that someone drank the koolaid and thought it was a good idea to use it for gaming servers... yeesh. I'm REALLY not impressed with the results.

Sometimes it is slow to log in (waits awhile (minute or so) before I get the shard selection), but it does connect.

I'm on Europa, from UK using Virgin Media cable.
I get the log in issue regilarly.

I estimate 50% success rate logging on. When it fails, theres a 30 sec delay then failed to connect error.
Log in issue for me is before selecting your shard, I'd guess maybe 1 out of 3 tries it won't go through.

So, to summarise: Those people who are having a problem, it's with the log in server, not the shard servers?
Which would mean that it's not cloud related, because the patch and log in servers aren't on the cloud, unless Lord Obsidian's research is incorrect?
I thought it was just me... but at the log-in screen I'm CONSTANTLY frozen for like 2 or 3 min... then sometimes it'll say connection lost.... or unable to contact server.
I go back then try again several times if it seems "hung-up" then eventually I get logged in.
I play on GL's but this is BEFORE I get to that log in.
I live in the Upper midwest.... if that makes any difference... But I can say that I've experienced a whole lot of difficulty since we went to the cloud... Getting past the main log in screen can take a LONG time.
And I use the EC.

It's happening constantly to thousands of people - I'm just the one to pancake about it publicly enough that maybe something will get fixed

Even if the LOG IN server isn't on the cloud it still has to talk to the SHARDS which are.
I've had lag, outright pauses worse than usual, and difficultly logging in since someone at EA heard about the cherries of Cloud computing and apparently not the pits of it, then decided to move things to the cloud. Seemed like the usual trend of customer service going downhill. <shrugs>

This is all conjecture on my part....
I have noticed some latency issues while doing other things on the internet. Issues loading stratics and packet loss watching Youtube.
Perhaps this cold storm is freezing up the copper wire and fibre optics of many of the backbone networks.
It's almost as if packets are being re-routed because they can't travel their normal path and it's created congestion and delay.
Like I said pure conjecture on my part but I have noticed other latency issues myself besides UO.
the game itself isn't laggy at all - just the login servers are busted
I started to have issues with recalling some weeks ago and just tonight got hung up while game was connecting, but has happened lot more. I have noticed more lag lately and never had that problem much at all before recent.

Well, since the servers are now in the cloud, it should free up some money for EA to get us some decent in-game support.
i only get this on the rare occasion that i logoff to switch characters. A long time ago i got in the habit of just closing my game client when switching charactors, mainly because i'd go to another shard and have the housing cache issue.
I've never seen this on a fresh client start
I've also experienced horrid lag since this hosted server stuff was done.
What tends to be more interesting, is virtual hosting isn't always more cost effective, and definitely gives you more headaches.
for the past few months, this has become the norm, these pings are actually a hair better than the norm. More so during the evenings.

How is changing to NAT on your virtual adapter in any way a fix? It's still getting routed through the same public IP address of your ISP..
I think the issue is as other members have suggested. They've tossed us into a tiny cloud and that cloud is congested.
It appears from the posts in this thread packets are being dropped trying to connect to login servers from players on both the east and west coast.
I turned off IPv6 support and the virtual PC driver and that seems to have fixed it
I don't know which of the two things fixed it, nor do I care - it works now

i by default had disabled ipv6 as had some other network issues with it turned on not relating to uo,
Pretty sure its game wide it started i wanted to say 1-2 Pubs ago. Myself and entire guild have the same issue. Most of us are in Windows 7 32-64bit. Same thing start the client, log in, (client not responding), you either wait 2-3 min or reboot the client before it gets into the login server
In general, I haven't had trouble logging in but I have noticed a severe uptick in lag the last week or so and others in my alliance have been complaining about it. Might this have something to do with all the bad weather that has been going on this week? Incidentally, I'm living in California and connecting to Pacific. I wouldn't expect the blizzards out east to affect it but I seem to have less lag than some of our east coast players. I'm also on Verizon. I'm posting here this morning because I'm suffering one of those huge lag bouts. I was able to login, but even the login lagged for me.
Just took me close to 5min to get logged in. Stuck at entering screen 3x and the other times it just froze up.
Same for me, every since the server redo or whatever.
