"ONE OF THE MOST important topics in gaming that everyone seems to ignore is game preservation. The IGDA Game Preservation SIG had a round table discussion at GDC, and there was a lot of interesting news to come from it"

"More importantly, what about virtual worlds? Games are one thing, but how to you archive WoW? Ultima Online? Second Life?"

"several things are happening. The biggest one is that the Library of Congress has given out some funding to start preservation of games and online related virtual worlds. One of the programs is called Preserving Creative America, but there are others. In any sense, to quote the session moderator, Henry Lowood, the battleships are getting involved. With that in mind, it is up to people like you and I to point said ships in the right direction and help them out."
