Is the reptalon ever going to be looked at?

Been away for a few months, came back we've got new dragons to tame, loads of things have changed. But my Reptalon is still not as good as it's 4 control slots would suggest.

My old fix the Reptalon thread seems to have gone missing, so here's a new one. Issues with the Reptalon, discovered and discussed at great detail in the old thread, include:

* Resists show on the Lore gump are roughly double it's actual resists. This is judged by how much damage a reptalon takes compared to another pet with the exact same resists and HP.

* Slow swing speed. Another Pet with the same dex will swing much faster than the reptalon even when a reptalon has over 100 wrestling. Plus the reptalons fire breath makes it take long breaks from fighting at regular intervals. Making it's DPS output go down even further.

* Reptalon special attack, paralyze, is less than useful. It could do with something that actually makes a difference. Several options were discussed, bleed is too common in pets, poison wouldn't fit it's purpose. We never really came to an agreement on this one, except that paralyze isn't enough.

* Survivability, some sort of life leech ability was discussed in the old thread. Should make it roughly as survivable as the Cu with self healing, they are after all both 4 slots.
2. Maybe the reptalons do better during the summer? HAR!

Sorry... not helping here.

Yes, you are right... a 4 slot pet is a 4 slot pet and the reptalon isnt worth it.

I know you like your Raptalon and its cute pet but tame wtih 2 pacer and one healer the new grater dragon and you will like it.

With all those sharp talons I would think 'double strike' would have some credibility as a special attack. Or for something a bit more unique, how about a 'frenzied attack', equivelant to casting 'devine fury'?

I have no doubt the new great dragons are nice, but that doesn't solve the problem that a Reptalon is currently both bugged and over "priced" in terms of control slot requirements.

What I'm after is some sort of fix to the reptalons, they've been broken since the nerf in late ML beta. They were totally overpowered before the nerf, but true to form EA "fixed" them by nerfing them right to the other end of the spectrum, and managed to bug their resists and swing speeds too while doing it.

I love my Reptalon, but you gotta realize they are broken, when 2 years after ML people still come up and ask if it's a new tameable because they've never seen one before, while everyone rides around on a Cu released at the same time...

Well Jeremy alluded to a balancing of pets, but without clarification I can only hope the reptalon will get some positive balancing as a result.

Fingers crossed, they're so much better looking than the stupid puppies, it's harsh that they got the bad end of the stick.

Go get a new dragon... they are awesome

Give them this special...

"Golems can use a special attacked called "Colossal Blow" that will stun their opponent, and make them go out of war mode for a short while (similar to the results of the peacemaking skill)."

Maybe to make it worth while, make it silence spellcasting for that time also.

Yes they are pointless to have. They are the forgotten "power" pet.

Yeah, in ML Beta they had Nerve Strike, which was just plain nasty.
One way to help bring them up to par with the Cu Sidhes having the ability to heal is to give the Reptalon the Life Leech on every hit, like Vampire Bats do. Another way to empower the Reptalon would to make them have Necromancy. Would be cool to finally get a Pet capable of using Necromancy.
10. BadManiac

BadManiac Guest

Vampire bat life leech yes, we pretty much all uniformly agreed on that in the old thread. But Necro was voted down after some discussing, it would not work on a pet, I mean a pet with revenants? That would really make the Fel PvP bunch jump with joy [IMG]

This is what we never really agreed on, somethnig that would make it good, like Bleed, or something equally useful, but without making it the new Cu (everyone has to have one because they are better than anything else available) Paralyze clearly isn't it...

I agree the reptalon needs to be given a special..... something that will bring it out of the stable and back into the field...... I recall taming one and for all the pain they are to tame and all they just aren't worth it.... perhaps if they were given a bit of a dex boost..... right now they are SO very slow. And not really powerful at all like one would be made to believe. They are rather weak.

I'd go for a tail whip or a wing swipe. Ever fought Meta Ridley in Metroid Prime?
THAT is what a reptalon should be like!

So is this issue ever going to be officially acknowledged by the devs? Maybe a Five on Friday question? I know noone uses Reptalons, so noone really cares, but that alone should be enough to warrant a FoF. There are only so many 4 slot pets in UO, the majority are Cu-Sidhes, but you can still find a few Hiryus. But not a single reptalon. Now, to me, that indicates a severe game balance issue.
14. BadManiac

BadManiac Guest

Another FoF, no Reptalon fixes in sight still?
15. BadManiac

BadManiac Guest

Another bump, could one of the devs at least verify that they've read this and could maybe take a look at it once they're done fixing everything else? Just something to know that my little Reptalon's voice is heard.

Not all creatures with Necro cast Vengeful Spirit or Blood Oath. Liches and Lich Lords for example. Give the Reptalon the spellcasting AI of a Lich along with Necro. Lich Lord Spellcasting AI is too much because they CONSTANTLY spam Wither. Ever fight a LL Para? They're like Wither Cannons.
17. Not every pet has to be equally useful you know.

And not every pet has to be worthy of taming at all.

Is a mongbat even worth ONE control slot?

Is the Fire Steed worth being REQUIRED to have over GM Taming for?

Not all creatures have to be equal, that's why they "cost" different numbers of control slots. Most one slot pets can be trained up to the exact same stats and skills, so yes a Mongbat is as good as any other 1 slot pet.

However, there are ONLY three tameables that require 4 control slots, out of which the reptalon is without a doubt the hardest to tame, yet it is so useless that even two years after ML's release, people still have never seen one. When there's THAT big a discrepancy, you'd have to agree something is seriously wrong?

Who here has never seen a Cu Sidhe? Or even a greater Hiryu since SE came out?
19. It's probubly not saying much, but a Reptalon with a prepared Tamer isn't useless. Even a mediocre test with a freshly bonded Reptalon on my Legondary Vet was able to go toe to toe with Miasma and a Minitour. Still, just by looking at their stats you can tell their not worth 4 control slots. They seem to be roughly on par with Nightmare when tamed, yet they lack the Magical skills and have the commented useless special attack.

From a Tamers point of view I wouldn't have them more than 2 control slots, which would probubly be easier to impliment and retroactive than altering their stats and forcing Tamers to tame new versions. However, if they were to be strengthened a bit, lets keep in mind Reptalon were designed to be CHIMERAS, not DRAGONS, which should give them a bit more imaginary leeway when it comes down to special attacks. I have sense gotten rid of the Reptalon on my Tamer, but keep one as a mount for my Archer. They look awsome and even moreso in KR, but I really wish they flew while ridden. [IMG]

*hint hint*
(Note: Some parts of the mount overlap the rider, how I wish KR functioned...)
((That, and BROWN Dragons!))

I agree 100%, the reptalons as they are now, are less than useless, and its sad. The reason is that everyone and their mother jumped on the Cu train and never looked back, so there was no complaining to the devs, so in the devs minds everything was perfect.

Cus are a joke to tame, theres no aggressive spawn (except the odd changeling), Cus walk SLOW, so they are stupidly easy to lead tame, with no ranged attack (at least if they moved as fast as wild Hiryuss, but no) and they are completely overpowered *when compared to other 4 slot counterparts* Hiyru is a decent tank with decent damage, but its special attack is lame in PvM, but even still, the Hiryu is a valid choice. Cus have self healing, heal their master, and bleed! and non-aggressive, and spawn in a place with no aggro...and are slow, easy to tame.

Reptalons...spawn near Rend, Miasma, and about 2 other reptalons, and countless minotaurs..., their fire breath when wild is like a low hp wild Greater dragon, their special (though useless to you in PvM) can paralyze YOU when taming, just long enough to be hit 1 more time and see grey, and after you finally get one, you might as well have a ridable hellhound.

annoys the hell out of me, cause I hate being like the masses and jump on the Cu train for my high end mount, but when there aren't different but equal options around, theres no choice.

I even tried to train my rep, I thought I'd buck the trend anyway, even if the pet was sub-par, but I changed my mind when I needed to vet my rep while he was fighting 3 EARTH ELES. That made me stable him and never look back

It's probubly not saying much, but a Reptalon with a prepared Tamer isn't useless.

[/ QUOTE ]No of course not, in fact I hunt almost everything with mine, with varying degrees of success. The point of it all is that other 4 slot pets, and in fact a few 3 slot pets can kill any target faster than a Reptalon, even when the Reptalon has better elemental damages for the targets resists. The reptalon swings MUCH slower than any other 125 dex pet, even tho it has above GM wrestling. And the fire breath attack lowers it's damage output even further by interupting it's swings for long periods of time.

The reptalon also takes MUCH more damage even when it has better resists for a specific target than another pet, which suggests, as I have quite thoroughly tested and concluded, that the reptalons resists in the Animal Lore gump is actually double it's actual resists.

I think maybe the reptalon should be given the Rune Beetle's armor corrupt ability, and the life leeching ability of either vampire bats, or the life draining ability of Meer Eternals.'
Plus obviously removing the paralyze attack and fixing whatever's wrong with the Reptalons resists. THEN it would be worth 4 slots.

Failing that, just drop it to 2 slots and let me use it as a steed with a Dragon or Rune Beetle.

Yeah, Reptalons definately need something similar to the Cu Sidhes' Healing ability. Vampire Bat Life Leech or Meer Eternal Blood Drain. One way to make up for their' low stats is like i said before, give them Necro without Blood Oath or Revenant.

Here's the Stats of my Fully Trained Reptalon.

Nice one, I'm not alone with a fully trained Reptalon!

Mine is 497 Hits, 500 STR, 271 INT/Mana and 125 DEX
60/40/44/58/71 Resists
And 103.3 Wrestling, everything else at GM

I had screenshots, but they've been lost since then.

After about 20 mins of killing Reptalons, just got a real nasty one to spawn. Has max health, and very good Resists (For a Reptalon). They can have 50-65/35-45/35-45/50-65/70-85 in Resists.
Had 118.3 Wrest before tame, can get up to 106.4 or 106.5 Wrest when trained.

27. What about the parry skill, with bushido counterattack ability?

28. Guest

Guest Guest

Won't work, the creature has to be capable of using a Weapon, which Reptalons and most other creatures are not. They use their' natural weapons (Claws/Bites), which is considered Wrest for them.
29. my tamer has

with a 1/2 brace with +10lore and 70luck for 110animal lore

Time for a bump

Seen the Moonglow event now on three shards on two different continents. There are countless Super Dragons, Loads of Cu-Sidhes and several Hiryus. But guess what? Not a single measly Reptalon in what must be over 1000 players in total. ALL other 4-5 slot pets are represented numerous times, but NO Reptalons. This is a huge statistical anomaly, and an indication of how immensely underpowered the Reptalon is. People prefer 2 slot Nightmares and 3 slot Rune Beetles over one of the three available 4 slot pets. This seem normal to you?
32. BadManiac

BadManiac Guest

So the devs felt a strong need to add another new pet? While all "legacy" pets and my poor dear Reptalons remain utterly out of balance, and in the case of the Reptalon, totally broken.
Could we maybe get some attention paid to old pets, and Reptalons, before you add new pets? Please?

Mid 2012 and the Reptalon still not been looked at !!! Devs have no love for this amazing looking beast??
Even the 3 slot Bane/Dreads wipe the floor with it in terms of power and usefulness (I have talked to some tamews who were unaware they could be used, but had a CU and even a Rune in their stables...

Show some love for the reptalon! give it a decent special attack or reduce it's slot number to 3 (like dread/bane)
Just a humble opinion!
