Just bad luck?

I have a Legendary smith on Chessy and have gotten over 5000 bods. I have yet to receive even a single large or small Valorite bod. I mean how rare are these things? To head off the usual questions...I've been to every smith on the shard. I've let the six hour timer run and I've done 100-200 in a row trading them in for a new bod and still no Valorite. I've been playing a different shard for the past year and havent kept up on getting the bods on Chessy. So was it just bad luck that I've never gotten even one?

    Heres my take on it...

I have been doing bods with a friend of mine for nearly a year now, this on an average of 2000 bods per week. We have yet to get a Val Hammer. We have gotten Valorite smalls, but not able to fill the large "Yet". Legitimate bod getters will be lucky to score one valorite hammer per year.

We also do trading for bods and still we are 1 bod short to fill the large for the val hammer. We have gotten 4 larges through the year for a val hammer.. just dought we will ever fill them all..

    Good luck on your quest..

I put alot of time into this myself.Given the amount of time one must invest toward getting a high end runic it hardly seems worth it at all. I stopped doing it after a few months when it became obvious to me that unless you are playing a taylor/smith full time (8 hours a day 5 days a week) you will never see one or fill it.
You have 2 people working on it doing 2000 bods a week? Where do you get the time to do this ? How do you ...sort out, gather or create items (10 items per bod minimum) transport and trade in (running to the bank because you and packie are full sometimes) all of this? Thats 20000 items(and you have to craft the exceptional ones) .... where are you getting all the resources to fill these? Does your entire guild give you this stuff while youre standing there filling them? Are you stockpiling it first? Where? Only a fraction of this number can be secured in any bank/home before it can be converted to bods.
I read about everyone having the same odds of getting something good(RNG). I read about some being lucky more than others. I read about complex algorithms being appllied to ones chances. What I dont read is .... How does anyone have the time to do all this? Here are some of answers Ive read....
OK you have multiple accounts... you can only be one char at a time.
You 5 smith/taylors per account... you can only be one char at a time.
Youve collected and filled these bods over time... Im sure you have but how much time? It took me a year to fill the 2200 bods I had.
Youve pooled together all the bods from each of my chars and collected bods every 3-6 hours with each one.... Right!!!!... sure you did... and you havent slept in 6 months.

Im gunna get flamed for alot of this but I think its really important to point out how some of the info in these posts cannot be based on reallity. Who could possible have the time for all of this? Even if you do trade in 1000 bods one week you have 1000 new ones to fill (with 10000 items)by the next week. I dont even SEE 10000 items a week with 1 or 5 chars.
On top of all this.... WHY bother? The higher the runic the deeper the disappointment. How a gold runic gives me better results than a Val runic will never make sense me.
Can someone post how long a typical BOD run takes and explain how I can acheive these numbers?
If your going to tell me how wrong I am thats fine .. just tell me why?
It just that it would serve players best (new or old) if the info at least seems beleivable or accurate.
I rely on much of what is posted here. Show me a formula that supports this.
This way a newbie can read it and understand how tedious (ridiculous) it is to pursue. The time frames and numbers cant add up without an enormous amount of planning ,resources and "support".
If I offend anyone Im sorry but it seems that everyone talks about these lofty numbers like its normal. Tell me what Im missing ?

My legendary smith has been at it for almost eight years and to date I have received one small valorite bod. No large valorite bods at all. :sad4:
  5. If it's just bad luck, then you and I are both cursed with it.

I did Smith BODs since the day they began, several times a day, every single day for YEARS and years and years. I have yet to receive a valorite small. (That's on my GM Miner, GM+ Smith) Oh, maybe *one*, tops...but I am uncertain.

I have found something interesting, though: my 83.1 Smith with 35 Mining consistently gets at least twice as many high-end and colored BODs as my more experienced one. The difference is so striking that I have his skill locked at those numbers, on purpose.

(I've found that the same holds true with Tailoring, by the way: 75 skill garners better BODs than Elder - go figure)

I've only gotten about 5 since the BOD system began.

One I turned in (women's plate exc 20) to get a PS 120 before they readjusted the rewards so that singles couldn't get them.

So I guess I'm fairly lucky all in all.

If you're really concerned about it, I'd work one char up to about 85 or 90 in smithing and try some on them. There is anecdotal evidence that near masters tend to get a better range of bods than low and high end smiths.

I don't have the time or the characters to test it, otherwise I would. In any case patience is always a virtue in UO.

It's that unseen, smoky virtue that British never had and that Blackthorn had too much of.

It's pretty much luck based. Last batch I did a batch of turnins, I got 3 small Val deeds (two combineable) so they are out there.

The odds of getting a val BOD are STILL around 1/10000. You have a better chance figuring out how to dupe a hammer than you do at getting all 7 bods.

Best a single 20x val gets you is the 15PS so no cunfusion.

At the begining the group of RL friends that played and we combined our effort. Took accounts holding houses and made all mule accounts. That got old after few years and loss of players. New rotation system and still no better luck. I have an 18x18 dedicated to BOD books. And I'm retired and put in many hours each day. Got the 20x val large in DEC my first on just a run.

It would take script mining to keep up on ingots and multi account on multi shards running the BOD script to get a set. Those that did that stopped due to we have a butt loads of duped ones.

Its faster and less mind numbing tofarm swoop and stoop low and buy a duped one. You will find you have looted better stuff off swoop that got lucky and enhanced. And may have got lucky and got a Totem of the Viod ObN1.

I like the fact that is was rare and hard but with the way things are now why do BODs? But for the fact it's a nice break from the grind of hunting. If this Runic mess is not cleaned up and all the inactive accounts cleaned out of them Imbueding will be a farse. Complete waste of the Code Mages time creating the whole skill. You think you see a load of BS armor and weapons out there now? Wait till you see all the jewels and wood armor coming down the pipe. Those 10-13 junk items the runic puts out will be unraveled for 3rd lvl ingredients to fine tune the ones that got close. One thing is for sure the PoF will skyrocket in price.

Make that 3 of us, 1st day of Bod's, 1st Bod ever: 15 Norm Val Large Plate & NOT ONE Small (or any other Val large as a matter of fact) since to help it out! I have gotten a couple of small Chain vals but that is is.... Some Luck we have huh :cursing:
That's 3 Smiths daily (2 bods each), 2 @ 120, 1 @ 115. They went to 120 about 2 months after the 20 ps came out. On the 115 I said why the heck bother to go to 120, it isn't worth my time
