My First Archer - Suit and bow help

    Hi All, I have hung up my sampire for a new challange and decided to make an archer.. Here is the temp I am going to run.
    To start off my main aim is to be able to solo champ spawns / key and kill dreadhorn and the likes.
    I figure if I can do that I can handle most things the game has to throw at me.

    (90) 110 Archery
    (65)110 Tactics
    (90)100 Anatomy
    (60)100 Healing
    (50)100 resist
    (50)100 Bushido
    (60)70 Chiv

    I still have a way to go but I am getting good gains hunting)

    I was going to go for 120 Archer in the long run but I cant afford a scroll.... yet.

    For my suit I read that DCI is useless which is a shame as I have borrowed most of my sampire suit. I will list the items and if someone can recomend what to change I will be very greatful.

    I only have around 5 mil to spend but I may get more gold as I am hunting if i get a drop ever hehe.

    Voice of the fallen king
    Heart of the lion
    Ancient Sami Helm
    Ring of the Vile
    Quiver of inf
    Mana Phasing Orb

    I have just standard Arms/Leggins to take my resists up to all 70's

    I am lacking in HCI (only 15%) although this is boosted by DF and have 40 DCI with this stuff i have 8hp regain and 12 Stam regain aswell as str and dex mods too. I just feel this stuff is more suited to a swords/fencer/mace fighter.

    Can anyone suggest what bits to replace and what to replace them with?

    Also I have no clue about bows at all. I am currently using either a ruined driftwood bow or a repeating xbow with 25% ssi and 15% HCI. I do have mischief maker also but other than that I am in the dark.

    Any suggestions would be great as I am hoping to make gold with this char from hunting.

    DCI on an archer is not useless... it helps you avoid getting hit. Bein an archer, theoretically you should not get hit in melee as much, but if you're running champ spawns, eventually you are going to run into raiders. Or ratman archers can hurt. So I wouldn't go without DCI if you can fit it in.

    You don't need all that HP and Stamina regen. A little focus or stamina regen is ok to keep topped off, but don't make sacrafices on your suit for it given you can use chiv or total refresh pots.

    120 Archery is an expensive scroll because all things PVP useful are expensive & desirable. If you are unable to get 120, get a 115.

    Although I do have 120 resist on my archer, its not absolutely necessary for doing most spawns. I am rather disappointed with it actually, as I seem to get poisoned all the time. Not to mention even with 120 resist if I run through an enemy mage's para field I get stuck almost every time. It's ridicilous- they really need to boost resist to be worthwhile.

    Can you join factions for the cheap gear? If you can, it will make your life easier on making the suit.

    Also you seem to have a lot of arties there. I would pick and choose only 1 or 2 arties. It's tempting to just grab every arty in sight and put together a suit that looks like you just got back after a year spent in Doom. But it doesn't give you enough of the mods you need. Typically you will choose an arty for the head (Hunter's headdress if you need skill pts, Mace & Shield for HLD/stats, or Spirit of the Totem for stats/hci)... and the rest will be imbued or you may have one other arty like the RBG, Fey Legs, or Stormgrip. Again too many arties and you wont be able to add much +stamina... which means you'll swing your bows slower.

    Mods you need as an archer are MR2, LMC, +HP, +Stamina, +Mana, 45 HCI, DCI... most archers I know run around 12 MR and some run low levels of meditation or focus also (or rely on JOAT).

    You will want to train your dex to 125, get as many dex items as you can, and then put +8 stamina on the rest of your pieces. Bows are slow and you want to accelerate them.

    The actual bows you use depend on what you need. For boss monsters I like the composite as Lightning strike combined with AI works well. For spawn I like to go with a magical short with 50 hit area. The idea is that the magical short will swing at cap so you will get more hit area spells off than you would with a slower bow. For PVP you may want a dismount heavy and a regular bow for mortal/para. The PVM comp should have a slayer, SSI, and balanced. It can also be helpful to have Mana leech. My PVP bows I'm making now have 1 DI, Balance, 40 SSI (enhanced), Hit spell 50, Velocity 38.

    Just a quick question to elaborate on the OP's questions. What Bushido "spells" work well for an archer?

    I understand the usefulness of using Bushido to achieve perfection and of course using lightening strike to help that along. Are there any other Bushido spells an archer can use? Do confidence heals work? I am pretty sure evasion does not work.

    I use Bushido for my swords based sampire but I am just making sure I understand its value with Archery.
  4. Everything except Evasion and Counter Attack will work with ranged weapon skills as they are both Parry based.

    Thank you for the excellent reply. I will rethink my suit and join rehab for my artifact addiction hehe. I will most likely keep the storm grips and voice of the fallen king and replace the rest with imbued gear. If anyone on greatlakes has an imbuer I can hire that would be great.

    As for the bows I will farm monsters until i get a decent bow drop and then see if i can get it upgraded.

    Probably want to ditch the voice and instead get spirit of totem, mace and shield, or hunters' headdress (cheapest of the 3).. by using stormgrip you can have all the DI on your suit and use bows with no or 1 DI only, and put max intensity into the other mods (balance, ssi, hit spell/slayer, etc)

    Dropped bows only have 450 weight, exceptional crated ones can have 500...

    You can farm SA for materials to make bows... though its easier on a tamer, myst mage, or sampire.

    Sometimes people will just see what you are wearing and take pity and give you a better bow. lol. Or you can find stuff in Luna. Eventually though you will want some stuff crafted when you haev a better idea of what you want. :)

    Thanks again for the input. I think I will do some arti selling tonight and see if I can get someone to make me the rest of my suit. I will keep the stormgrip and I am kind of torn between the Spirit of the totem and Hunters though, I am thinking Spirit of the totem to free up stat points and also for the HCI, it will leave extra room on other items that way.

    Does anyone play Greatlakes?? if so I would be pleased to pay for imbued armour based on the information in this post. I will not need a helm or gloves though.

    I have some gold but I will need to buy the spirit of the totem, I should have a few mil left over though and will also have the following items to trade lol

    Ring of the vile, Heart of the lion, Ancient Sami Helm, Fey Legs, Voice of the fallen king

    If trade is not an option I will do my best to sell these items tonight.
