When the door to the rest opened, and Vaikima Surm walked in, Dramora couldn’t have been more surprised. Vaikima had been a trusted member of her guild, long ago. It had been a very long time since she had seen him, and she was anxious to find out where he had been.

He looked at her with no recognition at all.

“Do you remember me?” she had asked.

At last she saw a flicker of recognition as he said, “Dramora?”

He said he had been travelling. But what was most disturbing to her was the fact that he had been travelling with Cravien Shade. Vaikima should have remembered Cravien from long ago, the Hand had certainly attacked the Guardians of Virtue enough back then. And Cravien has certainly been one of the more violent of the Hand back then.

Even though her head said there was something wrong, her heart saw the friend she once had, and she perhaps had said more about the Charnadis book to him than she should have. But stopped herself before she let on she knew where the book was.

Aedon was a good friend, and Leela was now in town, but Dramora found herself feeling alone most of the time. She was desperate for the companionship she had enjoyed when the Guardians has been in full swing.

But looking into Vaikima’s eyes, she knew here was something wrong with him.

Before she trusted him with the knowledge that she had the book everyone was searching for, she needed to know if he was still the friend he was when he was a Guardian. She needed to find out what happened to him.
