I find these very compelling and might suit the game.
Hackers are misunderstood but there are philosophies, these summ them up pretty well.

    How To Become A Hacker
The Hacker Attitude | NUS Hackers

The Hacker Attitude by Eric Steven Raymond:
    1. The world is full of fascinating problems waiting to be solved
    2. No problem should ever have to be solved twice
    3. Boredom and drudgery are evil
    4. Freedom is good
    5. Attitude is not substitute for competence

As the virtues develop for the game, i would really like if these are used as reference material.

Also since the game is set in almost recent times, how about setting it in Eastern Europe type of theme?
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Half-Life (highest rated gaming series ever) series really set the mood exactly where
Ultimate RPG seems to be going. They would really be a great games for reference on the setting of the world.
Also Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, great rpg, highly underrated setting!

I really believe Eastern European post-Soviet Union stuff really suits the game:

CCP is taking good care of our beloved World of Darkness already

I'm not sure "almost recent times" was ever said though. RG just what the setting wasn't going to be and then mentioned "historical".
