Question for the UO thieves.

When I used to play UO, my favorite character, by far, was my thief. I started in '99 and quit just before all the vampire/ninja/samurai stuff happened. I was considering giving the game another go. But I wanted to hear from you guys what the game is like these days. Can a thief still run up to disarm people and run off w/ the best weaps in the game? Or has that been nerfed? Is the thief still a powerful (or viable) character?

Also... what does PvP look like now? I remember that, before UO:R, it was pretty awesome stuff. And it got a little lame afterwards. Are meele characters still totally dominant? And does the PvP still require a lot of skill? Or has it become item-based (Like EQ and WoW)?

Probably more item based, I'd say. If you do not want items, then you will want Siege. On the other shards (not sure of Mugen) there is insurance, making a disarm thief, not what he used to be. Even on Siege, there is a single shard blessing, but the pack items are still open for seizure. Not sure about pvp- I havent tried that yet.

Thanks for the info! That's too bad. It seems that all MMOs are going in this direction of gear > skill. What used to make this game awesome was that everybody had the same Cheap-**** leather armor and dex suits. But there was such an overwhelming skill requirement that the best players could dominate 1 vs 3. Not like I have to tell you this lol. I'm just reminiscing.:(
