  1. (Some ambient music)

    • Remember when it was actually difficult to build a GM Mage?
    • Remember when you could have multiple houses?
    • Remember how crowded the "wilds" of Britannia was with all these houses?
    • Remember tents creating recall-courtyards in front of castles?
    • Remember risking losing everything if you died with your key?
    • Remember the PK Sweeps in the dungeons?
    • Remember bomb boxes?
    • Remember Happy Meals? (backpacks filled with loot and a bomb box and put out in the open for a sucker while the sab hid nearby)
    • Remember everyone killing Santa Claus to get his gloves?
    • Remember when houses had no storage limits (and no secure containers)?
    • Remember when there was no insurance?
    • Remember when a newbie thief could steal any item?
    • Remember people being nervous when you stood next to them at the bank?
    • Remember when you had to ID any item you found?
    • Remember CatHat?
    • Remember the great land grab when Malas opened?
    • Remember when comm crystals were actually useful?
    • Remember when someone cast a fire field, everyone would run to stand in it to raise their resist?
    • Remember how, when you died at the bank, everyone immediately stopped what they were doing and ran to your corpse to see if you had anything?
    • Remember the "True Black Dye Tub" scam?

It amazes me how much I miss CatHat. I so wish him and his family well.

    Most of that, yes.

    For better and worse.

  4. used to carry the exp boxes on me with my stuff in it, could open it when it was in my pack and not have it go off, but if a thief peek in it, it would blow killing him/her, also if I died in Felucca and they looting the box, it would kill them when they open it. I heard a tale of one such thief dieing in her home after looting a box off me :) Made me feel a lot better knowing I got in one last hit.
  5. ...I remember, and I also remember when people entering your house would go grey to you, so you could 'remove' them with impunity.
I remember when The Lost Lands was the Next Big Thing, and the strange and wonderful animals from there could not yet be taken into Britannia - there was a quarantine.
I remember when EACH stable master held his OWN set of animals, so you had to go back to the certain one to claim your certain pet. If that stablemaster somehow died, your pet was deleted.
I remember when a Dread Lord was a rare and scary thing to see.
I remember, before Trammel, people would polymorph into lizardmen and pretend to be part of the town raids, then killing people who were trying to defend their beloved 'West Britain Bank'.
I remember when I used to solo ophidian knight errants, wyverns, silver serpents (hacking away at them with 65 skill in Swords and a Silver Katana of Ruin) until one day, when they had fixed poison, and suddenly those little beasties had a bite.
    OOOooOoo ooOOoOOO ooOooo
I remember "The Server Will Be Shutting Down Soon..." Oh, yes; the Britain graveyard, each and every day; no-fear PVP bonanza! The server would always be scheduled to go down at 5, finally going down at 6, usually later, and when it came back around 7, or so, it had time-warped back to 4, or earlier. Yes, it used to take over an hour for it to save, nearly an hour for it to shut down, and almost another hour for it to reboot and be ready to play again.
And I remember something I will never feel again. The wide-eyed wonder of a newbie; new to UO, new to the Internet, new to PC gaming ... feasting my eyes upon the wide-open world of Sosaria, and all it's wonders ... realizing that almost everyone I saw was a real, live player ... learning my way around Britain ... and learning that if you step through the pass to the west too far, you'll be dead before you can even read the words "You have left the protection of the town guards".
    I remember...
    MEWTWO is attacking you!
    Root is attacking you!
    UndeadGod is attacking you!
    Sssth'ra is attacking you!
WINGEDWOLF is attempting to heal you.
    You see Elric attacking UndeadGod!
    You see GOONIE attacking Root!
    You see Worlord attacking Sssth'ra!

I remember the good old days.

I reactivated my account for this. For TOT3 and for UO:SA. Please, EA-Mythic-Bioware ... Don't let me down again. The best is yet to come?

I sure remember all those things and more...

Remember people casting summon creature until they got a horse and then selling it to some poor newbie only to have it vanish only moments after buying?

Remember almost all towns busy with players?

Remember owning Drakes and Dragons with 0 taming?

Remember Ettins orcs and red mages at Cove?

Remember GMs dropping huge spawns of mages and monsters on groups of players out of the blue.

Remember seeing GM's hunting in dungeons wearing crazy weapons and armor once and a while?

Remember your first boat ride to Hythloth because it was pretty much the only way to get there?

Remember when wigs and "No draw" backpacks were totally worthless because almost everything would drop them

Remember every monsters loot came in backpacks?

Remember the real use for Chaos and Order Shields?

Remember people hiring like 20 npc mages to train resist up from outside guard protection?

Remember your set of Invuln or Hardening Armor?

Remember when items could actually sit on the deck of your boat without decaying?

And If your from pacific... Remember Hobbes?

I could go on and on. Sure miss those days.

I remember a girl bringing dozens of rabbits into town and lagging everyone within range.

The absolute FIRST GM you did. Mine was Gm Tactics, which was unexpected (I was a BARD, dammit). Couldn't get rid of the warrior title for months.

Putting bounties on reds that killed you... until you realized that it didn't do you any good.

Reading message boards in towns so you could go find the escort quests.

The initial quests where they'd ask you for something or other but never give you the reward for bringing it.

Talking to npcs for a while and having them hold a pretty good conversation, sometimes surprising you.

Hitting training dummies for hours on end trying to get those first points -- because you didn't know how to make any money to buy the skills up.

The first dungeon/crypt you went into.

The first time you had to actually FIND a healer. And the subsequent rush to get back to your body before it decayed.

Avoiding certain bridges, since they seemed to have fireballs flying off them as soon as you came within range.

Being able to tailor leather goods with no skill. Getting sick and tired of all the blasted furs you were getting.

Taking your cloth map and finding points of interest by using a sextant.

Using the moongate time table and your wrist-watch (or clock) and spyglass to get to where you wanted to go and laughing at the folks who just kept using the gate until it went where they wanted.

Boy the game has been dumbed down so much....

    More rememories:
-Lag so bad that you literally couldn't walk from the bank to the tailor shop.
-Server resets so often that it seemed like you haven't played in a month (I got to adept tailoring 12 times!)
-People hanging out inside my house to kill me for days at a time.
    -Monster spawn inside my house.
-<tab><tab> hide and the impossibility to kill anyone because of it.
-Rather than teaming up against the lone PK, the six nearly gm-mage blood elemental farmers all running away or hiding and leaving the newb to try to fight off the PK alone.
    -Provoking turning you gray.
    -Field spells working through walls.
-Losing your only GM skill because somebody snooped or lit a fire.

Just remember, it wasn't all good back then. It was just... new.

Remember going to "the wall" in Deciet to Gm fighting skills and of course my all time favorite was gating monsters to the Justice Penn for my guild mates to kill. Boy they were mad when that Balron showed up :)

Walking in to shame with 10 or more dragons in tow.
White Wyrns morphing in to human form.
GMing Blacksmith after a year, and feeling all high and migthy.
Killing NPC's in Papua for black sandals.
Turning Red for dropping trapped boxes at the banks.
Losing my first silver vanq katana because I couldnt get back to my body.
Seeing my first IDOC and running away because I didnt want it to fall on me.
Stacking cloth up to even the ground so I could place my first small house.
Trying to find a spot to stand at Brit Bank.
Rows of horses and mares for sale at the bank.

Many good and bad times. But it is the UO I came to love!! I miss it!!
