Returning to UO - PvP Mage Template ?s

Even though it takes up a crazy amount of time, it's sweet to be back playing and reading the forums.

Since I started playing (the first time), my favorite character to play has always been a mage. In fact, my 7x sword/tact mage back in the day is probably still #1 in my mind. Exp-vanq hally-flamestrike... Ahhh, nostalgia...

Anyways, I have one more slot on this account, and I want to make a PvP mage. I have a couple of ideas to run by the gurus and experts. My first thought was to just build a 6x120 Necro mage with a mage weapon. Maybe that's too simple and easy, so my mind drifted to some kind of weapon skill (tank mage?), then drifted further...

I'm basically a noob, but is this viable at all?

    Mage 106
    EI 115
    Resist 115
    Arch 120
    Tact 90
    Ninja 114
    Med 60

I've read a ton of posts and haven't seen many other fun looking PvP mage templates. Without giving away any secrets, what are you guys running?

    looks viable

You want med at 80 at least. They changed the way med is calculated and it is much less dependent on items. There is no cap on it, but running below 80 is really difficult.

My suggestion would be to drop ninjit to 100. I like 106 magery I wouldn't touch that.

They severely nerfed Deathstrike on archers and furthermore on any template without stealth and hiding. It is still great for post dismount escape though. There are a few other things you can do with it too.

Since you ran a tactics mage I'd guess that your are pretty good a toggling between weapon specials and spells. Something I have always had difficulty with. Good luck.

I am tempted to try something like this, but with mystic-focus instead of magery-eval. Focus kindof takes care of med issues to a degree. and you could even run 40 med on top of 120 focus with that template. Just a thought. E

    Thanks for the reply E.

Ninja may not be the way to go - could always just do 6x120 Arch/Tact mage. The necro is fun too, but I wanted to try something different. More thinking...

If you are only using ninja for animal form/mirror images---drop it to 80 on a mage, with 2/6 casting u can spam animal form pretty quick and even if you failed 4 times on casting llama and got it on the 5th try, it might have been faster than failing it once at 100 on a non-mage without casting.

I wouldnt call it a completely viable.

You cant get the swing speed up high enough for it too be considered effective. Of course, it really depends on the way you play it, but on paper its not effective. Perhaps drop archery for another weap skill.

But it is entirely up to you.

Also running 70 med would be ideal for you. I run 70 med on most of my templates with 10-12 MR, and i barely run out of mana.

Thanks for the input. Plan A is now to go with the standard 6x120 Necro Mage. I really enjoyed playing one before and that was without going all out on equipment.

I've got a few other projects to complete first, so I'll keep reading. If anyone wants to share what PvP mage templates they're running currently, that would be sweet. Thanks again!
