What is the best Weapon Skill for a Sampire? I would have to think Swords or Fencing are better than Macing.

Don't just say "swords are better", please tell me why you think so.

Perhaps First you should tell us why you think swords or Fencing would be better than Macing, Personally I do not think any are better than the other, I have all three and am partial to Macing and Swords more, although the speed of Fencing can compensate for certain things. Macing is easier to reach higher DPS than either Swords or Macing, Swords Offers the highest level of DPS if you can achieve it, with the ornate axe, Of course it has a Drawback of Needing very high dex and SSI where Macing does not require so much so, also Macing's DPS is a one handed weapon allowing for the usage of pots. But again, why do you think Swords or Fencing? It is better for everyone to know where You are coming from to better help you.

    swords are better.
    the end.

    ust kidding

it depends what you want dude. here's my quick overview

swords has some of the biggest, slowest heavy hitters.

if you're a very rich player and can afford that crazy ssi and sta levels to accelerate them to near cap, you will do the most dmg with swords. see connor for an insane-crazy-man-swinging-an-axe-the-size-of-paul-bunyon as an example. the downside is that the weapon specials seem to be kind of spread out across too many weapons. you don't see as many swords weapons which have two GREAT specials attached to them (see leafblade for example)

fencing is the polar opposite, everything is fast.

therefore you need less amounts of ssi and sta to swing at cap. fencing should be a really easy weaponskill for someone who is low on cash to master and max out. plus fencing has the leafblade, which makes my pants go "meow"

my sampire is currently macing, i chose it based on its black staff whirlwind weapon.

the black staff does nearly as much dmg (to within 1 DPS) as the 2h swords whirlwind axe, yet, it is faster, so it requires less SSI (less RELICS) to imbue and swing at cap. plus it has para blow attached. i use a UBWS leafblade. macing also has the hammer pick which should theoretically be awesome for pvp with AI and mortal on one weap.

take a look at this link. take a GOOD LONG LOOK. plug in your stats as they currently are. look at the weapons, the specials. compare them - see which does the most DPS while swinging at 1.25 cap. now look at the weapon specials. which weapons, while swinging at cap, have the most DPS as you use your favorite specials (whirlwind, AI, feint, etc).

now create the most uber suit you could create. maybe you'll have 35+ SSI, 180 sta... maybe you'll notice that certain other weapons now become the best DPS while swinging at cap and using your favorite specials...

that should give you a good idea of where you'll start, and where you'll want to end up. if they both match, ie you can use swords now and you'll end up wanting swords, you have your decision made for you. if they're different, i tend to think in the long run and just do it ghetto-style for now.

    good luck m8

This is a PvM list (which should be fairly obvious)

Swords has the widest variety of weapons:
Best one-handed WW weapon: Radiant Scimitar
    -- A solid mid-speed 2-handed WW: Double Axe
Best mid-speed 2-handed weapon: Rune Blade
    Best Heavy Hitter: Ornate Axe

    A solid Feint weapon: Daisho
Solid 2-handed mid-speed AI weapon: Hatchet and Bladed Staff
A good selection of Armor Ignore weapons

Fencing is admittedly rather lacking. However, the Leafblade alone justifies the skill (for 1v1 combat)
Best both Feint and AI weapon in one: Leafblade

    Solid 2-handed mid-speed weapon: Pike
Solid 2-handed mid-speed AI weapon: Spear
    Mediocre WW weapon: Kama
Wide range of quick and weak AI weapons.

Macing is a good choice if you don't mind the lack of variety.
    Best 2-handed WW weapon: Blackstaff
Best 1-handed damage weapon: Diamond Mace

Solid 1-handed AI weapon: War Axe (but a tad slow)
Solid Damage per second 2-handed weapon selection.
  5. But I like my Paul Bunyon style....

Oh, and I'm up to 60 SSI now with a 30 SSI wep. :lick:

worth mentioning... 55 SSI is always the same as 60 SSI it seems.

Unless perhaps SSI is also calculated at sub-intervals within 30 stamina too?

First, thanks for the informative replies from everyone.

I'm a Siege Perilous player, so no Insurance. I plan on joining Factions for the "cheaper" Arty Class Armor and such. I have 120 Fencing already, but I guess I was just wondering if Swords or Macing would be better. Training on Siege is a pain in the butt, but I'd do it if worth it.

To answer why I thought Macing wouldn't be ideal, it's the speed. Seems harder to get to max SSI, especially on Siege.

If any of you have any Siege specific advise, I'm all ears. I forgot to mention, this is for PvM.

I've been leaning to macing and the quarterstaff. Made from wood with 40SSI they swing like no tomorrow. For the stuff I kill with my macer samp specials aren't needed so its just bang, bang, bang.

bro i have never played on seige. but since you said there is no insurance i would use as many blessed items as possible - i assume THAT still works?

that means you will not have the variety of items at your disposal that a regular shard player will.

calculate your SSI and STA with whatever items are (1) Blessed or (2) you are willing to lose (but you can replace)

Now go to that calc link and plug in that amount of STA and SSI, along with your tactics, anat, str, DI, and weapon skill

That should give you a pretty damn definite idea of which weapons you should be using.

I'm guessing since you won't have access to insane-in-the-membrane-connor-style equipment you'll want something which is inherently faster, such as fencing weaps or faster swords/maces.........

connor, take your 60 ssi mr. hoity toity and go to beverly hills...

No Insurance. You can Bless One thing. That is what I figure Faction Armor/Jewelry will make it more possible, and getting Silver shouldn't be too hard on a Sampire.

I'm a sampire on Siege...been doing it for over a year now.

    I run your basic setup

    120 swords
    120 parry
    120 bushy
    100 tacs
    100 anat/resist
    100 necro
    60 chiv

I wear faction mace and shield, fey leggings, crimson and talisman. I use a turquoise ring with 5ssi, 15 dci, 15 hci, 15 poison resist and 5 dex bonus. Bracelet is just your basic 15 hci/dci dex/int bonus and damage inc. Imbued chest, gloves, arms and gorget...all with 8 mana, 8 stam and three have 5 hpi. I run a twinkling scimitar and a nice pair of runeblades. I used to use my personal bless on the rune blades since they're not imbued and near perfect. But now since imbuing is around i bless my ring...If I decide to switch the ring out with another I will bless the rune blades.

SO I mean...I run pretty much the same suit as everyone else around here. You don't get raided to often and if you do, evade/run/disarm/faction rune.
Its pretty easy to get away. Nothing is different...except for when you get looted by a moster your fighting because you died...that sucks ass. Other than that its all the same.
  12. When I added the 5 SSI imbued ring to Connor, he was able to take 15 points more in damage (stam loss) before his swing speed dropped, so I'd say yeah, it's tied to it.

I was thinking about you the other day as you run with assasin armour [is it 20%SSI?], with this new cloak plus full assasin, ring 5 and 30 from wep [or 40 if archer] you can reach 70 - 80 SSI [with devine].

I was wondering what melisand might be like to solo now? As is it 60% SSI she drains you for? Meaning you could still run with 10 - 20% SSI after the drain [is there a feint archery wep?] and with 182 stamina and using a fast wep with feint she might be possible. Would need to add the extra 20 DCI for using devine.

Playing my sammy archer against navary im finding it easy enough as he has 100 healing [loosing HCI compaired to my sammy but doesnt LS give you hci?, plus i can swap the hci for dci when solo or not]

I dont have an assasin suite, and cant find one for sale on atl to try building a suite around it to achieve the 80%SSI 75%DCI, else id give it a go.

  15. A few things.

    1. SSI is capped at 60

    2. You can't get to 180+ Stam using the Assassin Armor

    3. With 60 SSI, using a Daisho, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to solo Mel, although I'd suggest swapping Anatomy or Parry for Resist.

I'm not sure how Mel's or Grizzle's swing speed reduction works, but I do know that if you overload on faster casting and faster casting recovery, you can cast spells at almost normal rate. I had a friend who had FC 2 on his brace, 1 on his ring, 1 on his hat, 1 on his shield and 1 on his spellbook for a total of FC 6 (this was a long time ago) and could cast spells pretty fast while under the influence of Mel's or Grizzle's speed reduction attacks. (He only used the suit for the Grizzle).

This makes me wonder if you could do the same with swing speed, i.e. put 70-80 swing speed and not feel the speed reduction quite so badly...

I don't have the gear to test it though, so I'll just leave it at wondering.

Capped at 60 but if you have 80 will you still have 20 after? Or does she just leech everything?

You say about 100 or 120 resist, wont apples work? And is there much differance between 100 and 120 resist when going up against her?

  18. Either way, I'd love to add 10 more to my archer via the Tinker leggings. :D
