Split off from the canon Ultima? Not really...

Discussion in 'UHall' started by Prince Caspian, Sep 14, 2009.

  1. Just ponderin'....

By definition of the game's exposition, each of the shards in Ultima Online is a seperate world of Britannia, with its own history, branching off from the Ultima Canon from the point in time where the Avatar destroyed the Gem of Immortality (Ultima I), right?

However, it seems that the whole FUBAR that led to the Slasher of Veils arriving in the Stygian Abyss (ie with Beavis and Butthead's planar idiocy) is the identical storyline from Ultima Underworld I: The Stygian Abyss, which occurs about the time of Ultima 7: The Black Gate.

I actually played out that cannon without ever learning it, and noone has denied anything, quite the contrary.

This is much more than just a game, don't be fooled !

The Devs said while they were working on the expansion that the goal was to be a return to the base fiction of Ultima or at the very least have it play more of a role in the game besides "If you tilt your head at a 37 degree angle, squint one eye and hold your tongue in your cheek, these new lands sort of maybe look like they could have at one time been somewhat but totally unlike one of the old original lands".

In that, from my playing around, they have succeeded from adding in the Underworld Level 1 as it appears in UU:SA to the Holy City which is from Ultima 6 to the U6 books as rewards and beyond.

Contentwise, other than probably a couple of small tweaks to certain quests and necessary encounters, they have succeedly quite well with this expansion.
