    ((I've not exactly written this up as news, rather it's a copy of the Spellbook Appendix which Cobra now has sat next to the serpentwyne bottle. I have missed most of the names, since I can't remember them, and cannot recall who found the book first, nor the four or five people who struck on the correct way of translating it.))

    Spellbook - Appendix

    by: Rince the Mage

    The spells in this book have been encrypted. Only a skilled mage, with intimate knowledge of the arcane realm, will be able to decipher them.

    Greater Magic Protection

    The final word of power involves a powerful ally, well known to the Mages here in the City of Wind.

    --There follows an addendum in the hand of the Black Cobra:
    Dear reader, this book was found in an armoire in Wind, upon the 25th day of September, 378. ((August 29th 2010)). It was but one step in the mystery of the Serpentwyne.

    The adventure began on Bald Island. A lone hermit monk by the name of Roshi, with a pet loaf of bread he kept stroking, grudgingly gave the party of adventurers the name of one of the holders of the rare serpentwyne bottles: Rince, a mage. Immediately, the parties split up and began hunting. His hat (upon which this humble mage is certain he saw the letters “WIZZARD” picked out in faded sequins) was left upon a pedestal in the graveyard, with the inscription that Rince had lived in the city of mages, but died in “the other city of mages”.

    At once, the intrepid heroes set off for Wind. Sadly, many were unable to pass the magical wards surrounding the city, but the noble Aron Swordmaster (of the Sosarian Red Cross) quickly uncovered a monument to a being called “Xenucorp” – “Once our enemy, now our ally”. Our next discovery, in Rince of Wind’s old study, was the book above.

    To read the spells, one must first replace each row of numbers with the letter from a spellbook. The order is : Circle, Spell, Letter (of the Word of Power). In a fiendish twist, Rince had also added another layer of encryption on the first two words, by confusing some of his Gargish!

    The translation read:

    I was lucky enough to be the first to realize the words were actually “Sanct Por Ex In Vas Jux” – and that they must, as mentioned, be followed by the name of the powerful ally of the mages – which could be none other than Xenucorp! The words seared my tongue with arcane power as I spoke them, and my vision went dark. Once it returned, I found myself trapped in a small cave with none other than Xenucorp itself! Having some…experience with vastly powerful and evil demons, I immediately panicked, forgetting all my long-learned magery for my less-trained mysticism! However, as my skin turned to stone, and the rocks around me animated to fight as a colossus, the demon fell quickly. There, amongst his remains, I saw glass sparkling in the poor light – the bottle of Serpentwyne!

    I had called for help at the start of the battle, but it had been too swift and intense for Aron Swordmaster to join me.

    The Serpentwyne itself now sits safely beside this tome, for all to see.

    ((I think Aron has screenshots!))

    I do indeed have screenshots, thanks to the kindness of EM Layne who briefly put the items back again, and which also allowed me to cheekily sneak back into the final room! I've left some of them in full size so you can see the surrounding map etc to locate them;

    Myself and someone else went straight to Wind as a "city of mages", but we both ran past it looking for an NPC that obviously wasn't there. Someone mentioned finding his hat in Moonglow cemetery (Next to the Moonglow Zoo, which people really need to donate too again... some of our animals are missing!), and thus that he had passed away. The hat is currently still there, and sits on a pedestal that says;

    "Memorial Stone:

    Here Lies Rince The Mage.

    He Worked And Was Buried In Moonglow, The City Of Mages.
    He Lived In The Other City Of Mages.
    May He Rest In Peace."

    So alot of us returned to Wind... I cannot recall who found it first, but it wasn't me, as I was checking all the inns and mage shops to the north and west, which is where I instead found the stone that confused so many of you;

    I repeated it often in chat, but alas few heard, or understood what it meant... This is the pedestal in the bank of Wind;

    And this is the book as it appeared in the EC, with the first page visible;

    The code inside the book has already been listed, and what it translated as... I was one of the first to get the full code, perhaps the first to add Xenucorp due to the confusion amongst everyone else who hadn't located the statue to see he that was the name of the "powerful entity", and I went to try it at both the pedestal and the Xenucorp statue. As I was over by the wee daemon trying it, Cobra worked out the final step, which was to spot the mistranslation of two power words, add the spaces and the daemon, and excitedly called out "come to me quickly!". Only he'd forgotten we weren't partied, so I had no idea where he was...! Saying it at the bank teleported you into this EM room, where Xenucorp resided;

    Sorry it's dark, but it seems to eat light inside. Xenucorp died very quickly to a shocked Cobra, so he will have to let you know what he looked like I'm afraid. You cannot fall off the cliff wall to the left, and as there was nowhere else to go, the only thing to do was exit via moongate back to the Bank.

    The bottle, and a copy of the book is now on permanent display at The Palace Of The Jade Mongbat, which can be located here;

    Notice that, despite the protestations of EM Layne after the end of the event, the bottle absolutely is NOT pink :p
