Roleplaying in KR. BOD Running in 2D. I'm giving crafting a second try in KR, and it's not as bad as it was.
4. 2D. As far as I know, KR still won't run on my laptop and I don't want to have to switch clients between computers.

Mostly because I like how I am able to command/vet my pets in the legacy client and because certain event's are "2d only"
Depends on the character I'm playing I guess. Nothings better for my warrior chick and my crafter than KR. Above is the main reasons I've logged into the legacy client.

I roleplay on GL in KR, and have found the macro system far superior to 2D (without paying for UOA) and I love the zoom feature. The screenshot utility is nice too, though mine is broken.. *sobs*

I still use 2D for housing design and item placement.. KR still has issues there. And 2D is the only client that will allow the proper pasting of text into books.

On a day to day basis I only play KR if I can help it. Eventually it will be superior to 2D in all regards. Why fight the future?

Guest Guest

I'm a 2D only user. I really like KR and would play it, but as it is now, I am unable to have the macros in KR that I have in 2D. I do not wish to change my play style. KR actually runs smoother and I lag less in it than 2D, but because of targeting and key binding issues I stick with 2D.

Guest Guest

I like 2D because it's easy to work with and you actually have to be there (if you are legit) to better your warrior,mage,etc.. KR has done nothing more than give in to the scripters. You can now set your macro (with KR) and walk away while the game does it for you. I think that's lazy.

The decorations made in my homes look horrible and not what they're supposed to be in KR. The boxes look horrible. And it's nto a real 3D client to me.

KR. It's fairly pretty (for an isometric game), coming close to the standards set in recent years by Titan Quest and Dungeon Siege 2 (note: other isometric games). The interface is almost up to the standards of pretty much every other MMO, finally, and is in fact more customizable than many. It continues to have some issues and of course the team isn't doing much about them, but the future of the game is there, if they step up to the challenge.

2D looks like something designed by amateurs in 1995. There's a reason for that. And all the nostalgia I have for 1997 still can't stop my eyes from squinting at the tiny, textureless, low-color graphics and the complete lack of a respectable UI.

...just kidding! [IMG]

Nonetheless, I love both of our clients equally. The classical legacy client just has this look and feel to it, that they just cannot seem to replicate in Kingdom Reborn. It feels smooth, and runs great on just about any machine. The downside is that, from a technical standpoint, 2D has reached its technical peak and we will never see naval combat or a pirate expansion with our archaic 15 year old engine. Kingdom Reborn on the other hand is beautiful, and thus far I have not had any problems downloading, installing, or running the client (aside from one graphical bug that turned out to be my own graphics card, and not the client itself). There seems to be more customization available, and its nice having the tools and macros available, especially being one who is disgusted by the idea that third-party programs are required to succeed in game.

I love the legacy client, but I think that Ultima Online would benefit in the long run from a client that both appeals to new players, and is not hindered by the limitations of the 2D client. My suggestion would be to merge Kingdom Reborn and LegacyUO into one super-client, where you can choose the graphical interface and in-game character models, but this would allow the designers to work with a client capable of new and exciting things (such as elimination of the tile movement system and naval warfare).

The graphics are not that bad in 2-D. Is that what really keeps you playing? The graphics? I really wouldn't think that would matter. I don't crash with 2-D. It runs smooth and I can move around just fine. So...how about keeping them both? You can play KR and we'll play 2-D.

I will admit that I may like some of the landscape KR, but housewise smaller items and other major deco wise, paper doll wise and other ways, redoing monsters, cows, horses looking like they not really letting us sit on em properly etc. etc. .....um KR...NO !

Aside from that, while this computer *might* handle KR, I dislike complicated dwlds of megabytes on my sorry still stuck on dial up connection. I do not really wish to RELEARN the same game, that I have played for 10 yrs. like it is some other game not UO...point and click game or whatever...some old dogs do not want to learn new ways, anyways. Besides one would really have to LIKE it way more to fool with all that .............stuff of the Kingdom remade to whatever KR is, but KR is just not the UO I like nor prefer. I would not mind a new look but some things just TOO drastic ..if I wanted a entirely different new game, I would go buy one.

That is not their fault nor mine, per say, but KR is million bazillion bytes per patches, and well, forget it, won't happen for this lady on my connection ever, with KR and myself. Besides I like the classic mascot of UO ie the mongbats AS IS, not KRified. hehe [IMG]
15. This poll will come out like narrowly in favor of 2D, like 60/40, then you'll run to any bank in the game and ask "Hey who's running Kingdom Reborn?" and people will throw rotten fruit at you for even mentioning KR. This board is not representative of anything.

Now I would not throw rotten fruit at you or anyone if they actually enjoy using and like KR. [IMG] Course some of them folks probably eat their meals ala microwave oven all the time or fast food it, unlike some of us OLDSTERS whom still make a meal in an old school oven and prefer it. [IMG]

I figure it will come down to maybe even an *age* difference those that are more *old school* UO may never really like UO KRified,..some do/will like KR more though.

I sort of look at it more like, just personal preference...and yeh I can nuke meals in microwave oven too, but just not as enjoyable for me like the *real stove* but then again I still reject Ipod and VISTA and lucky I have taken kindly to this old WIN XP and love it, and actually use cds for my music and some movies even. hehe [IMG] HECK I still have 8 tracks and cassettes. [IMG] Would prefer an older model car as opposed to some computerised new model cars...some look more like car embryos to me than a REAL CAR. haha They can KEEP THOSE TOO ! [IMG]

Just cuz something is newer even possibly greater, does not mean some folks HAVE TO accept it. hehe My kids wanted to get me that ipod thingie and I said wth for ? NO thanks, just get all my music on CDs for me from *albumns* cassettes and 8 tracks and I be *updated* as far as I want to be. hehe And if my XP dies doubt seriously I will buy ..........a VISTA. May wait for the BETTER model later on. [IMG]

So for this old school UO-er and oldster...KR just not my cup o'tea...if some really enjoy it more power to em. If they dump 2D I would have to be one that exits. But heck I have had pretty much a full usually fun 10 great UO years, inspite of AOS, etc.... so no complaints here. [IMG]
18. 2D only, I can't get KR to load on my computer and on my husbands I can log in and stand in one spot and not like the graphics, moving is a chore so I haven't bothered looking at any other features.

Yes, I have used the uo.com site to report system specs, issues etc. I have tried many many times to get KR to run, it just won't on our systems in its current state.

2d only !

I try KR from time to time to see if they changed the things I need to play it. But 2d will be always my favourite client.

Why? Here are the main reasons:

- backpack usability; does not act like the 2d backpack. Things drop just where they want to drop in legacy style.
- journal does not show me when I can run again while stealthing.
- crafting menues (scrolling, stuff like that)
- resizing of UI. backpack is too big, some other things too small, nothing has the size I want it to have.
- movement
- UI, crafting menues and all things look too modern. 2d is just the way it should look like.
- Items too blurry and unsharp (still!)
- macros not working, resetting, or not the way they should be.
- walking against walls will cause you to just walk whereever the system wants to walk. I want the system to let me face the wall instead of trying to go around it !
- .........
- many more things.
21. 2D. Two reasons:

1) KR graphics are too blurry.
2) I like the 2D sprites.

If they wanted an updated client, I would have liked EA to have spent their time and money keeping the 2D graphics, double the resolution of the sprites, and doubling the animations instead. It would have kept the UO look with making everything more detailed and smoother.

KR only - If atall...
I absolutley detest 2D
When 3D was switched off I tried 2D thinking: Ok the graphics are very sub-optimal but its a rocksolid, bugfree client
When I noticed how many bugs it had and how userunfriendly the UI was I waited for a good stable client - Have been waiting since and have slowly had [censored] enough of waiting...
I really wish we could have 3D back as KR is not going to be developed obviously...

2D runs like greased lightning on my system... so fast it's scary.

KR runs great performance wise, but doesn't look good on my 1440x900 widescreen 19" monitor. Also none of the gumps, etc. save where they were when I exit and reopen the client... I have to put everything back like it was every time I start KR. Little details.

I take offense to the term 2D for the current client; it assumes that KR is something more then 2D which it is not. The current client should be called the Classic client.

at time of writing 2D is way ahead on 59%.

I personally downloaded KR when i got into the beta i spent around 15 hours of my day doing that only to find it was completely unplayable.
Over time it has improved but no where near enough for me to use it full time.
- As others have said the graphics are blurry and cause you to squint at the screen making it very difficult to play.
- The new UI is horrible, hot bars are all well and good but the whole interface just looks like any other MMO and not like UO anymore.
- Most of the new art is disgusting or oversized, in most cases both.

and most importantly its still unplayable on a lower end system and im not one of those people that can afford super fast machines capable of playing any game no matter how intense.

2D has its problems but at least i can play and enjoy it

EDIT - newthunder its called the legacy client (or 2D)

I only play 2d with the exception of when i make a new character i start in KR so i can eventually do the New Haven Dark Knight Quest. As soon as my character makes it into New Haven i shut down KR and boot up 2d. I'll use KR again when i have to fight the Dark Knight thats it! If i could do all that stuff in 2d I would NEVER use KR.

If you really want to see what people think about KR go to the SA forum and check out my thread about buying SA without full 2d support. You'll see just how many people will walk away from future UO expansions without FULL 2d support. Personally i won't buy any UO expansion that doesn't fully work with 2D. A KR only expansion would likely be enough to cripple UO's expansion profit margin by a VERY VERY large percentage possibly creating a UO expansion failure that EA would be so disappointed with that it may spell the end of future UO expansions. Dispite what alot of Ex-3Der's / KR Fanboi's want most of us on stratics to believe without 2D UO is dead. That is about the only real FACT in this whole arguement. 2D FTW!

2D exclusively. KR is broken, unfinished, dark and blurry. And just doesn't feel like UO.

Some of my dislikes are:
* No red dragons, and no drakes at all
* Partial hueing STILL not finished
* Interface is awful, if you need a guide to figure out how it works it's NOT a good interface.
* All hotbars and macros get deleted randomly from time to time
* There' no complete Legacy/2D graphics option
* There' no Legacy/2D interface option
* Can't resize containers without making the rest of the UI unusably small
* No spell icons, loose or sticky like in Legacy and 3D
* Dragging and dropping items is terrible, trying to place items in a container with some sort of accuracy is impossible
* Containers and other interface gumps don't stay where I put them
* Containers don't remember which view setting I select for them

And so on.
32. I hate the KR graphics so I'll stick with 2D until forced to quit or UOAM dies. The only useful thing in KR for me is the ability to change someone's access level on a house and that is a bit hard and only available if they are in the 50 folks included on the list (I just logged on to KR to fix the access for one of my characters. I couldn't reach him on the list to do so. Will get someone to fix his access but what if i needed to remove access? I wouldn't be able to in KR).

The map is useless compared to UOAM. The characters are ugly. I have dificulty going through a moongate. The landscape if blurry. My giant beetles are to big and float sideways. I can't read speach well. There is no Control-Q for pricing stuff on my vendors. The keystrokes are backwards.

I have played Civ IV that uses the same engine I've heard. The graphic problems in Civ IV are tolarable since it is a turn based game. In a real time game like UO they aren't.

2d, mostly because the majority of my developed chars are tamers and I don't find KR terribly pet or tamer friendly. I do like KR on my stealthers.

My client useage split would likely be:-
95% 2d
5% KR

Just one major cosmetic beef, too, KR llamas have fat butts & they waddle. I love my sleek, scampering 2d llamas. Could llamas be legacied? Pwease?

Edit:- Okay, two major cosmetic beefs:- For the love of all that's good, please make the dragons, drakes, reptalons, birds, parrots, & every bloody winged thing in the game stop that damn perma-flapping! [IMG]

I have 3 computers that I play UO on.
2 are desktops and 1 is a laptop.
At this point in time the only one I can us KR on is my new desktop.
Neither my laptop or my second desktop is what I would call old.
They both have P4's, at least a gig of memory and decent graphics cards, but it is too jerky and by the time you turn down all of the settings to try and make it run smoother you lose color and basic detail.
KR is still only 2D, I can't see any reason to be such a resource hog.

I would not have a problem using KR, but they need to make it work on a reasonable machine.

To address the topic: I use the 2D client almost exclusively although I try KR with every patch...and say...yup, still don't like it.

Main issues:

Blurry, indistinct "mystery" item art. Legacy mode helped a lot but unfortunately, you end up with an unsatisfactory cut & paste look with that solution.

Character movement: creepy

Character mount poses: ridiculous

UI: non-intuitive. While this isn't peculiar to KR, unlike many other games with similar toolbar & slotted UI styles, the help system & tooltip/right click functionality is marginal at best IMO.

I fired up and patched KR last night. If I use the correct res form my monitors, which is 1024x768, the music in KR is jumpy and movement totally sucks. If I switch to 800x600, the music is perfect and movement totally sucks. Wraith Form looks great in KR, which is what form I was in when I finally logged in, by I could not move at all. I was in my own house, cable connection. I would click to run across the house, for a solid 1 second, nothing would happen, then I would appear to jump across. It was completely ridiculous.

I use both clients. I use KR for casual hunting, shopping, mining, and crafting. I use the legacy client for stocking vendors, house decorating/design, plant growing, and events.

I'd like to see the item and house tile art polished (Much of it looks unfinished to me.) I also think the sounds effects should more closely resemble those in the legacy client. Strangely enough, I think the KR client would "feel" more like the UO we are all used to if the sound effects hadn't changed.
44. I play 2D because (I wouldn't have said it this way but, it does summarize my point of view)

- The new UI is horrible, hot bars are all well and good but the whole interface just looks like any other MMO and not like UO anymore.

[/ QUOTE ]

The thing I love about the old 2d UI is the freedom... the way I can place an object anywhere in my backpack... how smooth the transitions are from a tiled setting (outside of containers) to freely placeable (inside.)

There is a thing called backpack art for a reason!

Not to mention that when I open a container... whether a chest, pouch or basket... it LOOKS like what I opened... not a brown box with the image of such in the top left corner.

Not only that... but, I cannot stand the UI at all. I don't want to play the UI I see in other games... nor do I enjoy to.

One of the biggest things that I've loved about Ultima Online for so long is it's unique UI. It looks, feels and PLAYS like Ultima Online. Not like the rest of the industry.

The legacy art and legacy containers are NOT legacy to the 2d client but the old 3d client.

I don't want to look at a brown box and call it a backpack... I want to look at a backpack.

Just as an example.

For the very same reasons I never played UO3d... and couldn't stand playing it are the same reasons I don't play KR. Simply, no one listens to why those of us who still play UO 2d... do so. We like 2d and the features that encompass it. We do not want to settle for less or we would have.

Upgrade the graphics... cool. Make the stuff look neat, I'm 100% behind that. But do not touch my UI, my backpack, the way I interact with the world I play.

Why does the UO Dev Team constantly feel the need to tear down a system completely in order to build it up... rather than just enhancing it. I can't tell you how many times PvP had to be reworked "completely" or that the item property system had to be reworked "completely" etc. etc. when players would have loved it if we would have expanded upon our current systems (at the time) rather than tearing them down in order to.

my 2 cents
45. UO 2D. Why?

Disappointed by KR. I was waiting for a graphic overhaul, but if some points are better, there are too many other points which became worse (IMO).
I use KR for big crafting sessions, ie really not often.

I still prefer 2D client.
46. I use 2D only for actual daily game play. The only two reasons I log in KR are too infrequent for me to consider putting both.
For the reasons on pg 5 of this thread:

In KR:
Movement locks when I try to change direction fast.
Can't target self/last on the mouse wheel. Also it has no other option but the new targeting system. It was so much simpler just to have target next, now it's target next friend 1/2/3/4/5 etc target next enemy 1/2/3/4/5 etc.
Items in grid view don't appear, including on the paperdoll (see link in other thread)
It takes minutes to come out of animal form.
Walking in to walls does that irritating thing where you walk up and down.
The graphics.
The bars... why is there 3 different bars just for my character? It's just irritating. I don't need 3 bars, I don't need a bar for a box I just opened or the stupid ice snake outside my house that keeps targeting me.
You can't (unless it's changed recently) macro certain functions that I like as toggles always run/circle trans.
Not sure if you can change text colour yet.
Text style is horrible.
Tooltips/mouseover permanently on. (I prefer single click)
Can't (afaik) get system messages to appear in the game window like in 2D, I think turning the chat window off should enable the legacy system messages, it's semi-needed for some skills to be able to what your doing.

All of that stuff means it isn't worth the time/effort to bother setting up my full macros & if I did there were previously some huge conflicts/problems with that too.
47. 2D only it is the only one i like. Also PVP is the best in 2d for me the other clients are just to slow on my computer an just dont work right for me.

KR, pretty much 100%. The graphics are like 2Ds, except they've been updated, while there are problems, they're not at all as bad as in 2D. I can run, I can ride a mount, KR is fun. Most likely the last few problems will quickly disappear and it'll be silly not to use KR. [IMG]
