Just came across this very interesting interview on women and gaming. The interesting part is in the audio which is an interview with a woman who is a developer and an academic that studies the subject. Enjoy!

Female gamers are common now. And its a myth that they want different games. They want just as varied games as the guys do.

Heck, I've had my butt kicked by girls I know in everything ranging from Heroes of Might and Magic, to Diablo 2, to Counterstrike and Star Craft 2.

I am in an alliance in WAR and we have many women that actually are calling the shots on where to go and defend in vent. Sometimes in my opinion, they get more heated when people are not listening to orders and give the warbands a quick wake up call. I know 2 of them I would classify them as some of the top RvR players we have on our server and follow them in battle any day. Women in gaming are just as picky as men are to their particualr tastes.

About 10 years ago it was: "Do girls play games?"
About 5 years ago it was: "Ok, girls play too. But what kinds of games do they like?"
Today it's not about male gamers and female gamers - it's just "gamers" period.

I think we've long passed the day when girls in games were something special, both as consumers and as developers. Many of you may not know, but there are a huge amount of women out there making even the most hard core "masculine" games that you play.

Granted, there are still -less- women in the field than men, but this is evolving constantly - and now especially with the social games boom there has been a huge demand for the female perspective and an influx of women in the industry.

Thanks for the blog link, interesting reading, thank you
  8. This is definitely an interesting blog. I think that girl gamers are everywhere now. It's not uncommon anymore. Many of them get pulled in by their significant other, then decide they like it.

Sorcon there were many women in the opening of UO, just not so visable. It is why so many females feel comfortable about running guy characters.

I will admit to get my daughter in law in a game is trying to pull a bull throught a key hole. She will help out if we need the extra in game and does admit she dont mind running her namesake.
