You complain about scripting but you buy scripted gold!

I constantly hear complaints about it and read posts complaining about how scripting needs to end and how nothing is being done about the problems it causes, but yet when the scripters begin to sell their gold or use fencers to sell it no one even considers where it came from they just see it as cheap gold.

Yes its known that I have in the past and still do occasionally sell gold, so you can accuse this of being a spiel or rant, but lets be realistic how is someone getting a continuos supply of gold on every shard without either scripting it, duping it, or buying it from someone who scripted it or duped it.

So next time you go to buy gold consider where you stand on the scripting issue then re-evaluate who you're purchasing it from you may inadvertently be supporting the very thing you claim to be against.

i dont think gold should be transferable through any means other than earning it, or selling a crafted or earned item. as a matter of fact, i think they should make transfer of gold its self not possible through person to person means. and i think theere should be caps on both the top end of cost on items through player vendors, and how much a player vendor should hold.

I agree with you to a point, but there are still ways around all of it. It's frustrating, but until people stop buying old there's nothing can be done. I personally don't understand paying for gold, I pay my subscript fees and expansions and thats it, maybe the occasional upgrade, ie housing increase. Outside that I just don't justify it. But thats just my opinion.

The only gold I've ever bought was 2 million from Crazy Joe's Tsunami relief auctions, and I personally donated about 500,000 gold to that auction prior to the purchase (and several guildmates did the same), so that I was effectively buying back our donated gold (that we'd gotten as a group, farming Ilshenar champ spawns specifically for the donation), to turn it into real money for the cause.

  5. I sell gold. Never scripted.
    So buy mine.

heh, aye as raven pointed out there are those sellers who earn their gold the hard way by working for it.

I seem to remeber somwhere in the TOS that one may not make a profit on anything owned by EA, to inculed anything in game, thus it is illigle, they own the game so your gold is their gold.

I used to be a skill trainer so its not like im not guilty but, its in there.

    You may not decompile(free shards?)
You may not sell items or gold or skills or anything in game.

I could be wrong as I searched for 5 min on UO.com and could not find the TOS lol
  8. google uo.com ... select any of the "top" listings ... bottom of the page ... Terms of Service

I just keep hoping scripting will be delt with better in the future. Then we can see which traders are legitimate.

I am a regular gold seller, so I guess it's a touchy subject for me to comment on, but I know it's very very hard to keep enough gold from trading etc. to supply for more than 2 or 3 shards. I know a few really reliable sellers (like you, DVI ;)) and I know how they make their gold (trading, vendors etc).
I personally think it's very dubious when someone has a seemingly infinite supply of barbed kits. I've gotten a few barbed kits from doing BODs in the past and it took me so much time, it definitely wasn't worth it. Not to sell them for $2 or 2m.

In the end I'm an UO player and I love the game, so I'm against cheating as everyone should be. I've never cheated and I know several gold sellers that don't cheat. Gold/item selling de facto isn't bad. When you buy gold just be sure who you are buying from. A reliable seller is more than willing to tell you how he makes his gold. Ask around.

UO does not have a rule against selling items/gold for RL cash.

WoW does and look at how well that works ;).

hmmm im lost in time perhaps though i rember a tos spec for UO and not the general EA End User Agreement.
alsop ther is this (c) Rights. You acknowledge and agree that all characters created, and items acquired and developed as a result of game play are part of the Software and Service and are the sole property of Electronic Arts.

It was once upon a time illegal to sell uo items for cash but that was a long long time ago.
  13. Saris

    Saris Guest

AHHH ok hmm making it legal seems a bad move but hey who am I.

Now if EA sold resources and gold......maybey they could spend the money on EMs and content.
  14. Saris

    Saris Guest

Well one of the resaons it works a little is that every thing good or Uber is friggn soul bound lol

OH god if only they knew about UO, all the ppl I know who are knew players found the game though friends. see the post above, maybey they could use a bit o that money to ummm ADVERTISE

    Why is scripting bad?
Someone making cash from automated programs is clever.

im gonna just ignore every thing that is worng with that last post damn had to edit sorry I could not let it go.

HMM its worng becuase it gives a player the advantage of makeing gold or cash while they sleep but at the same time crashing the economy of UO and making the game less desirable for everyone and eventulay leading to its death? theere im done

German ebay allows sales of virtual property still
Just the americans are scared someone could sue them of losing their virtual pixels they never really possessed
  23. Mulch

    Mulch Guest

You are talking about a crime.
Please go to the police and report a scripter in uo and see what they tell you
  24. DVI

    DVI Guest

UO and EBAY are two different companies if EBAY choses to disallow the sale of Virtual items on their site that is their choice, or if the US government makes the decision to prevent the sale of virtual items on ebay or other similar auction sites that is their decision, that doesn't mean that UO has made it against their tos
  25. Saris

    Saris Guest

Also the new TOS on UO.com is not in effect so therfore I assume it is the last TOS issued.

and yes it is or was? against the law to unattended script, I can prove this but I dont realy want to take the time of posting the TOS and explaining it to you.

If you uses or access any netowrk that restricts such things and do it anyway, its called hacking and makes you a script kiddy.

Aslo they could sue you over damages projected by you scripting lol
  26. Mulch

    Mulch Guest

In my country I am pretty sure the law does not even know what scripting is.
USA may be farther and there might be a law which prohibits unattended scripting in video games and sentences it with jail time, but then we are not so progressive as the US.
  27. DVI

    DVI Guest

its not against the law to script.
  28. Mulch

    Mulch Guest

We should organise with EA and maybe try to pass a worldwide law to get unattended scripters shot. And maybe add the same punishment for lazy GMs that only answer with silly links.:mf_prop:
  29. Saris

    Saris Guest

civil law yes it is. YOU play the game and a tos comes up, try it.

Hell Reistall the game and read the tos most just click by,,, the use of a 3rd part program is prohibited unless balh blah blah, it even used to talk spec about un utteded macros and told you that it was a criminal acction and that you may be held accountable in civil court.

ITs not go to jail law

its lose your house and money lay

then again if your broke their is no point but now the TOS reads

can ban you for any reason even if we dont have one

blackthorn would have your back but LB would cut off your head lol

so....they wont sue but I have seen lots of scripters banned in my day so go on and think your safe.

worng is worng thier is no argue

its thier game they made the rules

you can play or not but your not supoosed to cheat lol

I agree they need to address WHY resurces are 90% scripted but gold is a differnt story, I completey screws up the game.

That mean you are hurting ppls enjoyment of the game

to me its wrong but for some.. they lack morals it seems

I think the best way to handle the script gold farmers is to limit game play. Here you got ole strphanie(GLs) in dojo for month running 23/7. So stop them from playing 23/7 say any account that fights in one area more than 4-5 hours is barred from that area for the remainder of the day. And if they are barred from more than one area (like they just switch different account positions) then bar the account from playing at all for the rest of the day.

This would at the very least increase the script gold farmers cost in that they would have to have 4-5 accounts to cover what they did with just one. Which should make it so unprofitable for them that they will be scrambling for something else to do to make gold. Because there are only a few "sweet" spots for them. This also would not hurt real players, because real players rarely spend that much time in one area.

For bod scripters, just limit the number of bods you can turn in in a day to say 50. This will drive their costs so high they will have to find something else to do. And real players rarely turn in more than 350 bods a week, so it won't realy hurt them.

Nope... pretty sure I've never bought a single piece of gold, nor any pixelated items, save a couple of the spring token packs. And those were bought straight from EA.

Ebay basically made a blanket policy on disallowing the sale of all virtual items. With the rising numbers of online gaming and the different rules set up in reguards of sell items for RL cash by each game developer, and in addition to the high number of fruad claims both by sellers and buyers, it was just easier for Ebay to make a policy of banning all sales.

Like people have pointed out before, not all gold sellers are scripters. I know a lot that have very successful vendors and work very hard at keeping them stocked. They help out guildmates and the UO community, and still have a surplus of gold, so they have a couple of choices. A. Stop selling items. B. try to get two of everything in game instead of the one that they have, or C. sell some of the gold and make some money.
